Educated at Upper Canada College and Queen's University, James Fitzgerald spent over 40 years in the fields of journalism and book publishing. His first book, Old Boys: The Powerful Legacy of Upper Canada College, was a controversial inside look at the attitudes and values of English Canada's ruling class families rendered in an oral history format. Revelations of the sexual abuse of boys at the school, first published in his book in 1994, sparked the criminal conviction of three former teachers and a successful multi-million dollar class action suit against UCC. His second book, What Disturbs Our Blood: A Son's Quest to Redeem the Past, was a multi-layered exploration of madness and high achievement within his prominent Toronto medical family. In 2010, the book won the Writers' Trust Non-Fiction Prize and was shortlisted for three other major literary awards. The last in a thematic trilogy of creative non-fiction, Dreaming Sally is a true story of first love, sudden death and synchronicity set in the summer of 1968. Jesse LaVercombe is a Toronto-based actor and writer originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Acting credits include productions at Tarragon Theatre, Marigny Opera House (New Orleans), PuSh, SummerWorks, Caravan Stage Company; TV: American Gods, The Detail, Salvation, Mayday; Feature Films: Flowers in the Field, Mary Goes Round, The Telephone Game, In Clamatore. His first play, Preacher Man, won the United Solo Festival’s “Best Short Solo Award' in NYC, and Love Me Forever Billy H. Tender played in Toronto, Kingston, and NYC, where it received praise from The New York Times, Stage Buddy, NY Theatre Guide, and more. His latest short film has so far played over thirty festivals (including SXSW, Slamdance, and BFI Flare: London) and taken home six awards. He was recently commissioned to write a new musical, and his upcoming adaptation of The Epic of Gilgamesh with Seth Bockley and Ahmed Moneka will be workshopped at The Guthrie and premiere in 2019 at the Pivot Arts Festival in Chicago. Mikaela Dyke is an actor and writer from St. John's currently working as an artistic producer with Circlesnake Productions, a Toronto indie theatre company known for their experimental genre shows. Her solo shows, Dying Hard and Epic Pitch, have toured all across North America to critical and audience acclaim. His first professional role was as Slightly Soiled, one of the Lost Boys, in Peter Pan for the Vancouver International Festival. Since then he has appeared at most of the major theatres in Canada as well as in film, television and commercials. His favourite theatre roles include Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Stratford Festival of Canada), James Tyrone in Moon for the Misbegotten (Theatre New Brunswick), Matthew Cuthbert in Anne (Blyth Festival, Theatre Calgary), James Donnelly in Sticks and Stones (Blyth Festival), and both Angus and Morgan in different productions of The Drawer Boy (Theatre Passe Muraille, Waterloo Stage Company), Alfred in Stretching Hide for Manitoba Theatre Projects and The Haushofmeister in Ariadne Auf Naxos for the Canadian Opera Company. He has been featured in films such as Adoration, Away From Her, and the Canadian classic Who Has Seen the Wind. He has appeared on television, featured in such productions as The Listener, Universal Soldier, Sue Thomas F.B. Eye, A Season on the Brink, etc., and as a regular on a number of television series including 9B, Friday the 13th, Top Cops and Night Heat. He has appeared at YPT as Judge Taylor in To Kill a Mockingbird and in the touring production of Hannah’s Suitcase. He was also seen in Vancouver and Toronto in the Native Earth production of God and the Indian.
