Unabridged Audiobook
Started watching the silo series on apple tv. Once I found out it was a book series I was obviously gonna have to read it before ai finished the series. The narration is great and I was enthralled with the whole concept from start to finish. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Interesting and a bit disconcerting. If the silos or massive bunkers exist, I can surely see them failing in their purpose. Humanity is determined to fail itself.
The audiobook was easy to listen to and the narration was Great. I became intrigued with the story after watching the TV series and decided to purchase the entire three book series.
Interesting premise
Great book! It was very easy for me to get into it. I look forward to more from this author!
A very enjoyable listen for me. I wasn't sure I'd like it at first, but it truly grew on me such that I couldn't put it down! The narrator was great! I'll definitely continue to listen to the other books in the series.
Very well done book. Gripping and poignant story. Wonderful narration.
"Wool" is essentially two books intertwined. One is defined by a great premise, opening with a plot twist and twisting several more times as the story progresses. Some events are truly unexpected, not only actions taken but also inactions where a reader plausibly expected actions. The mystery is well built and believable, and each revelation is thought-provoking. The other is defined by the behaviors, thoughts, and actions of the two eventual protagonists. Meant to be smart people by role and narrative, both are driven by a sort of naive selfishness. About two thirds of the book largely follow these characters as they create problems for themselves and others only to wallow in self-pity and imagine an alternate world that requires nothing but positive thinking. If you can handle regularly agreeing with these two as one or the other muses about stupid they are, what bad choices they make, and how things are all their fault, then you'll be able to survive the spans between some truly incredible plot points and ideas that make for a great story -- at least, until the author unceremoniously and rather implausibly wraps it all up in just a few pages, letting the confederacy of dunces have their inevitable win.
The premise is very interesting- Government/leadership hiding information and spreading misinformation. These types of stories always make me angry and can be hard for me to get through. Many times I found myself shocked at the twists.
I knew nothing of this being on TV, the book was recommended by a family member and I listened almost constantly over a weekend. What a story!
I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next series.
I have been watching the show and loving it. Upset at the end of each episode that I have to wait a week to find out what happens. Then I found out there where books. Of course the story is a little different, but I absolutely love the book too. Can’t wait to read more and see what else happens on the show!
As it turns out, I was more impressed by this book than I thought I'd be. I've not seen the show, but I imagine they found a dozen ways to make the whole thing suck. The book didn't suck, which I have to admit was a surprise. The preposterous concept should rule out any serious sci-fi or any serious plot or characters. On the face of it, it seems like something you'd come up with in a high school creative writing class, better as the plot to a video game than to a serious book. But the author rescues it from simplicity. The characters are well-fleshed, at least enough for them not to be flat caricatures, and their strange buried world feels lived-in and true, somewhat, if you can accept the premise that all remaining civilization was somehow stuffed into a few buried silos spread out over a dying planet. But hell, I found myself playing along, liking the macabre set-up of the 'cleaning', the inevitable conclusion after being sent there, with its 1984-esque punishment for thought deviance. Julia is a likeable rogue, obviously a beautiful one, too. Crazily, (take not Disney) she isn't an insufferable girl-boss: she has her flaws, her hopes, her tragedies, but she's also smart and bound by duty, which in spite of her fear, makes her, ultimately, a hero. And maybe just the hero civilization needs. She gets help along the way, but she's resourceful and doesn't quit easily. I liked her, and I liked how promising the book's message was. No matter how hopeless and dark things seem, there's always a way to win. Never give up. That sort of thing is missing from our post-modern obsessed world. So I'll give the sequel a try, but even if that one fails, this one was well worth the time.
I really enjoyed this novel, want to read more!
I enjoy a good SciFi story. This is an interesting read which I found after watching the first season of Silo. I couldn't wait for more of the show and wanted insight into what is happening in the world. In the beginning, I was reminded of "The City of Ember" - but only because the sanctuary is underground. "Wool" quickly developed its own personality with a variety of unique characters and situations.
The narrator was really great- the book had a good story line and kept your attention
love the story line, It had me wanting more.
Amazing!!! Full of drama, mystery, and hit all emotions. It was hard to stop listening as I couldn’t wait to hear what happened next. Loved every second of it.
Loved the book!!
Great story, I do recommend it. But a lot of long descriptions of mechanical things which made me impatient and sometimes lose interest.
Really enjoyed both the story and the narration. I’ve been on a sci-fi binge as of late, and this was a welcome change. It’s a great post apocalyptic world story.
Very slow at first but then moves well!
This book is amazing!
Well written story
i would give it 6 stars if i could
Enjoyed book
Great read. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books
Honestly one of my favorite books now! Beautifully written and keeps you wanting more, I can’t wait to listen to the next one.
As usual, the book is better than the show. The show is easier to keep track of all the characters & technical stuff, so do both! Good story, interesting premise, and easy to listen to reader. Interesting that there are so many distopian stories gaining so much traction, while elections seem to indicate folks want more government...
Makes me wish I had Apple TV to watch the series .... but I'll just have to listen to the series here...
Wasn’t sure I liked this story at first, but it definitely grew on me. Narrator is very good.
I can start by saying this book is a hidden gem! I watched the TV show and it does this book no justice. This was an amazing read! I'm immediately diving into book 2. As was looking for some mental R&R from Dune, this wad a perfect getaway
Great story. The narration was a bit distracting. Especially when he would use a high pitched voice for female characters.
Really great listen, I very much enjoyed the narrator and storyline. I started watching the TV series and then found the book. The book beats the series hands down! Looking forward to the next instalment of listening!
I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the next one in the series. The narrator was excellent.
Fun premise looking forward to the others
Meh, it's ok
