never slept so well in all my life. I'm not familiar with thr author, but I'll assume, with the daunting mixology of proper English and a ghost story, that this wasn't written in this century. I heard every word, and they did not fall on uneducated or deaf ears...yet, the story passed me by. Perhaps a better read than a listen. I'll give it an honest attempt.
This is a classic ghost story - not too creepy but definitely unsettling. It was written around the turn of the 19th Century as far as I know, but is dramatic and keeps you on your toes as to the motives of the chief characters. The reader is really kept unsure as to who is telling the truth until the end - excellent!
Unfortunately, because it is an old story, the producers of this audiobook seem to have thought that it should be read by someone who gives the sense of being "old fashioned." She is professional but her voice is quakey and odd. She uses emphases too much.
