This book was an unexpected gem of queer historical fiction. It got FAR SAUCIER than I had anticipated and I will say, the flyleaf synopsis only really covers the first quarter of the book, if that.
But it lead to quite the sapphic adventure and I will not spoil the journey with too many details here beyond highlighting how very many marginalized communities were included in the truly diverse bunch of characters and how very flawed and human Nan appears throughout. The narrator, accent and all, was perfect.
And on a more personal note: as something of a “Tom” myself, I felt wonderfully seen and it was lovely to find a story of events so familiar to me set in one of my favorite eras.
Great narrator she made the characters come to life
it wasn't what I expected and was a bit slow moving
