Summary
After hearing Mr. Enfield's account of a distressing event involving Edward Hyde, the heir of his friend, Henry Jekyll, John Utterson is convinced that Jekyll's relationship with Hyde is built on something sinister. Utterson's concern for his friend is not unfounded but the reasons aren't quite what he, at first, believes. (Summary by Kristin Hughes)

Andrea Groves This is an iconic tale of the conflict between two incompatible compulsions within the soul of one person. Every addict, every overeater, every sexual deviant, every bipolar/manic depressive or person living with multiple personality/dissociative disorder --diagnosed or not--has warred within and without with the need to express the blackballed part of their personality on one side, and the fear of expressing it on the other. Mr. Stevenson captures the horror and despondency of this dilemma. Societal superego, in Freud's terms is out to wipe out the individual primitive drive for pleasure. An d the results of this civil war are not pretty. A classic that all can appreciate, beautifully read by the narrator, although matching gender is less confusing.

The narration is fantastic and obviously the story is a classic. I can't believe this was free!

I'm amazed that the story of Jekyll and Hyde I grew up with was completely wrong. The real story has a very interesting premise. Normally, I flee from Libravox recordings...but this narrator was pretty good. She tended to end every sentence with the same note. There's a difference between reading a story outloud and acting it out verbally. But since it's free and short, I wasn't disappointed.

No wonder it’s a classic. This is a really good book. Delves deeply into the human psyche and teaches an eternal message about the invidious nature of evil. The narrator did a fine job as well.

SPOOOOKY ! ! ! Having seen the old B & W film many years ago, I 'read' this version with a feeling of familiarity. This, however, was soon replaced with a new conception of what was missing in the film. Defoe had a much more profound concept of good vs evil. A brilliant reading by a very competent narrator.

One of the classics beautifully read.
