Unabridged Audiobook
like to read about great scientists, politicians, explorers, and more. So why not read about a great teacher, even if I'm beyond any sort of full time teaching myself. (Maybe I'll start subbing again sometime.) That's why I just finished "reading" on Audiobooks, "Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire," by Rafe Esquith. This guy is a super teacher. I'd hate to be another teacher in his school since I would pale by comparison. Anyway, his book shows how a 70-hour/week dedicated and brilliant teacher can bring a class of average 5th graders to exceptional character and performance. Highly recommended. I must admit, however, that by the end of the book I was becoming annoyed by his walk-on-water accomplishments, particularly with his Hobart Shakespearians organization that performns a different Shakespeare play every year, with rock accompaniment by the students themselves (not all in his 5th grade class).
