Unabridged Audiobook
This is a political manifest. As such, it is pretty good. Disraeli is witty and perceptive. The chapters focusing on the women behind the scenes of political life are lovely and oftentimes quite funny. But as a work of fiction? As a work of romance? The characters are flat. The pacing is uneven. Long, unnecessarily intricate passages about the 18th century political scene. The romance is sometimes forced. If you're interested in Disraeli: Great. If you're interested in 19th century fiction: read Trollope or Austen. The narrator is pretty good. His range and ability to impersonate is limited, but his voice is terrific.
