Summary
THE BOOK BEHIND THE THIRD SEASON OF GAME OF THRONES, AN ORIGINAL SERIES NOW ON HBO.

Here is the third volume in George R. R. Martin’s magnificent cycle of novels that includes A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings. As a whole, this series comprises a genuine masterpiece of modern fantasy, bringing together the best the genre has to offer. Magic, mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure fill these pages and transport us to a world unlike any we have ever experienced. Already hailed as a classic, George R. R. Martin’s stunning series is destined to stand as one of the great achievements of imaginative fiction.

A STORM OF SWORDS

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King’s Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world. . . .

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others—a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords. . . .

Some of the voices made me laugh, which was distracting at first. However, after a while the narration was just entertaining to listen to and easy to follow, especially when transitioning from dialogue to inner thoughts.

I loved this book! Though I wish that there was a faster speed than ludicrous, it just goes way too slow for me. Also, some of the voices Dotrice uses are just awful. Luckily the constant character swapping from chapter to chapter, means that you needn't listen to an annoying voice for too long.

Enchanting fantasy novel, only made better by the timeless Roy Dotrice.

I love these books. I have the hard copy and I read along sometimes or I'll just listen. The voices of the characters, read by Roy Dotrice, can be spot-on. Other times I cannot stand it, and go back to reading because the slobber and his voice is so repulsive. Iain Glen would be my choice to voice the books Mr. Glen read "The Blacks & The Greens" and it was fantastic.

My favorite book in the series (and will remain so until WOW and ASOS are released....Georgie-Boy....). Roy Dotrice does an overall fine job, mispronunciations considered. The North Remembers.

As always great book! I came to know of the book series because of the HBO show. As usual the characters are what drive everything. If you are up to date with the show, take the time to listen to the books.

Mr. Doltrice's reading of Fire and Ice is brilliance. His words bring George R.R. Martin's magnum opus to life with a story telling skill that is as epic as the tale he tells. Now we only need to entice Mr. Martin to finish it!

Great continuation of the story. Narrators voices start repeating themselves for different characters which gets confusing.

Better then audible! My audio book app is great for work, long car rides and I even fall asleep listening to George RR Martin's 3rd installment of his epic series with all its twists turns. A dagger to the heart, so vicious and unexpected it brings you back all the way to book ones heart-rending ending.

Best of the five. My second time listening to this book and it is even better than the first time. Dotrice is great. I will not watch the HBO series because it could never match the book.

Simply the greatest fiction ever written. Masterful front to end. It’s about my 12th time reading/listening and each I find new answers to age old mysteries and new questions I didn’t even think of the first 10 times through. 100/100

The voice of the narrator is soothing and adapts the characters very well. I don't like the way he pronounces Petyr Baelish

The voice for Walder Fray is literally unbearable.

decent enough book but honestly find another narrator, this man has managed to mispronounce practically everything he could.

Good, but reader makes every character sound like Walder Frey.

This series does not disappoint except for book 4. But first 3 books are great! In hopes the 5th book will make up for he 4th. No complaints on this book in the series.

I love this book, it is my favorite out of the 3 books I’ve read so far. I’m now on book 4 and I’m not sure if I’ll change my mind after that. I especially love the details in this book 3 about the Wall and beyond.

Mr. Dotrice is an excellent narrator! I don't have the time to sit down with the book & I have a feeling I would have a harder time keeping along with the book if I were on my own. I'm sticking with Roy for Feast For Crows because he's able to remember his MANY different voices for each character. The book itself needs no further high praise, it's far more amazing and in-depth than it initially appears. Although I'm more of a fan of the TV show (even though it has many differences). The rich and full-proofed storyline is amazing & (in my opinion) parallels the works by Tolkein his works. Audiobooks is amazing because it's extremely rare that the buffering takes too long or that the app on my phone isn't work. Only one or two delays in playing in about 4 months now. 100% satisfied with their customer service line too!

I started audio books with this series and Roy Dotrice narrating. And let me be the first to say I could not have had a better easing into audiobooks than this. Always an avid reader, I have wanted to read at times when it is not feasible and was quite dismayed until I tried this option. I was not disappointed. First the narrator, because without a good narration a book can be as bland as stereo instructions. Roy Dotrice is an amazing vocalist in his right. He assigns a voice and a style to each character and brings the story alive as he reads. You get much more than you bargain for! Anything by this narrator is sure to be a treat! Now for the book. If you've been hooked by the first two books, this book is a downright thrill. The plot thickens and turns continuously. So many questions are answered, and so many more questions spring up in their place. The convolutions are endless which seems tedious, but as the story takes its turns and the characters unfold the action only builds. You will find favorite characters in this book and loathe others, only to find yourself backtracking and changing just as the book does. And this author is not afraid to kill off characters, good or bad. You will find yourself angered by the death of good men and women and bearing through seeminglessly boring characters while worse men prosper, just before the world is turned upside down. This is not so much a story as it is a ride. If you're new to audiobooks or the storyline, rest assured. This series is great, and you will be sorely lacking for not having been a part of it.
