Unabridged Audiobook
great time with my selection
I liked this Audio and I liked the Movie to it as well.
Such a great story. The perfect amount o romance, comedy, action and mystery combined with a supernatural, yet believable time and place. Truly a wide variety of entertaining characters.
Such a refreshing audiobook, nice to listen to a modern fairytale which has been able to go beyond children and into the adult word. I found the novel and movie reminded me of the Princess Bride. Although I did not enjoy the novels ending (I wanted a more traditional fairytale happy ending) it did seem more of a realistic approach in today's times.
Classic Gaiman. Whimsical, thoughtful, romantic, and written with the mastery I've come to expect from him. Not all authors are great narrators, but he is the perfect person to read his own stories--that voice!
Fairy tales tend to lose their sparkle when they're made into books for adults. But Neil Gaiman has a way of creating an enchanting tale that never loses it's magic. The writing is effortless and easy with memorable characters. I've quickly become a fan of Gaiman's work, and look forward to anything he writes in the future.
Having loved the movie, I immediately bought the book in paperback and rented the audiobook. Although the book seemed to start off slowly when I read it aloud to my son (who also loved the movie, but soon lost interest in the book), Neil Gaiman's narration brought it to life for me I was delighted to find that the original book's story was just different enough from the movie version to continue to surprise me, and the book's more sedate ending felt just right in the author's voice.
Book is read by Neil Gaiman the writer, he actually does a suprisingly good job of it. Story is simply outstanding...I was driving in my car listening but in my mind I was in a different place. The story seems to go by too fast. Also don't forget to listen to the interview with Gaiman at the end of the last CD it is well worth ones time.
I listened to this book after watching the movie. I'm glad the book came second because as with all movies made from a book the book was better. I like how Gaiman develops his characters but it seems he draws heavily from fantasy writers that have come before him. I'll keep this short and just say that it was an enjoyable story with a happy ending. As a side note Gaiman is fantastic with reading this story. I find when it is read by the author you get the story the way the author truly intended it to be.
