Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader team up against a threat to the Empire in this thrilling novel from bestselling author Timothy Zahn.

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.”

Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root—its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn. Fierce rivals for the emperor’s favor, and outspoken adversaries on Imperial affairs—including the Death Star project—the formidable pair seem unlikely partners for such a crucial mission. But the Emperor knows it’s not the first time Vader and Thrawn have joined forces. And there’s more behind his royal command than either man suspects.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, General Anakin Skywalker of the Galactic Republic, and Commander Mitth’raw’nuruodo, officer of the Chiss Ascendancy, crossed paths for the first time. One on a desperate personal quest, the other with motives unknown . . . and undisclosed. But facing a gauntlet of dangers on a far-flung world, they forged an uneasy alliance—neither remotely aware of what their futures held in store.

Now, thrust together once more, they find themselves bound again for the planet where they once fought side by side. There they will be doubly challenged—by a test of their allegiance to the Empire . . . and an enemy that threatens even their combined might.

Praise for Thrawn: Alliances

“It’s a science fiction beach read in the best way, brisk and amusing, with some cool additions to the Star Wars galaxy.”—Den of Geek

“Like all of Zahn’s novels set in a galaxy far, far away, it’s an essential read for anyone looking for an artistically done adventure.”—CNET

Great book the story has a lot of twists and turns and shows an new face of Star Wars as from the people’s view not the republic and how Vader struggles with his past

Fantastic book!

Great book, it opened my eyes to a star wars storyline outside of the movies

Great narration. I liked the story as well. Thrawn is the best at what he does, no question but I didn’t like how the author made Vader and Anakin seem like lost puppies. You can add Amadala to that as well.

Not my favorite out of the trilogy. but definitely hella good. 9/10

This book was total disaster. It lacks a real involvement and imagination from the writer, like most recently written Star Wars Books. There has not been a good book since Drew Karpyshyn. With the one exception of Darth Plagueis.

Well, it was better than the first book. I'm just not fond of this incarnation of Thrawn. Instead of being a menacing badass like he is in Zahn's classic Heir to the Empire and its sequels, this Thrawn seems compelled to keep his befuddled allies in the dark while he waits for them to catch up with his astute observations and deductions. In one scene, he appears to abandon his allies and even argues with them about it, but then he returns later, stating, "Well, I didn't say I wouldn't come back." Why does he do stuff like this?! Vader never uses the force choke on Thrawn, and I have no idea why. The story was tedious. Also, Anakin sounds like such a belligerant moron in the flashback scenes.

Not as good as the first in the trilogy, I think that's due to it balancing to parallel stories at once, but the ending is Killer and Mark Thompson kills the narration again.

Great

excellent

Very entreteining but not as good as the first one. The sction is good, and the mix with prequels Anakin and Padme is fun but I think Ensing Vanto and Governor Pryce made better combination of characters with Thrawn.

I like the Thrawn series. The only part that made me shake my head was “double vision.” I get the premise and why it was needed but there has to be a better description. Great narration!
