Summary
AFTER TWO CENTURIES....The sound came swiftly nearer, rising in pitch and swelling in volume. Then it broke through the clouds, tall and black and beautifully deadly - the Gern battle cruiser, come to seek them out and destroy them. Humbolt dropped inside the stockade, exulting. For two hundred years his people had been waiting for the chance to fight the mighty Gern Empire ... with bows and arrows against blasters and bombs! (Summary from the Gutenberg text)

A very interesting concept of passing generations being the main protagonist of the story spread over a few hundred years.

I found myself getting attached to characters. Free advice: don't do that. Loved the whole story! The narration is great.

I was stunned to find that this book quickly became one of my all time favorites. Does it have a cheesy name? And have I never heard of Tom Goodwin? Yes and yes. But boy did I get my money's worth from this saga. I undoubtedly will read this book again, and I may even listen to this recording a second time on account of its phenomenal narration. 10/10

It was definitely worth the listen. It was hard to follow sometimes and was heart wrenching.

The story start ed with lots of technical jargon which, for me, made connecting with the storyline difficult. I would not recommend this story.

Not what I was expecting. Rather predictable but not boring.

“Our women will go with us” The women had babies and died. *eye roll* if you like this narrative, it’s all yours. Did not care for the book. Dreary, no emotional connection to the characters to care if they died, I cared more for the prowlers.

Great story enjoyed it thoroughly, as usual some pronunciations of normal words felt off to me though I believe that’s due to the difference between American English and “the real thing”. Well worth a listen

I prefer the original title of the novel — The Survivors. I did not like the ending (a little bit too happy), but I enjoyed the book.

This was the first sci-fi book I ever read and I was hooked. I never forgot how it made me feel although title and author dripped out of one of my ears sometime in the late sixties. Over the years I’ve questioned every serious sci-fi fan I met if they recognized the plot line without success. Then earlier this year I was browse-listening to the sci-fi group of LibriVox books and I recognized my old friend, still as good as ever!
