Unabridged Audiobook
Good book, good story , kept my interest.
Both the book and narrator were pretty good. Lots of twists and turns in the plot, which kept me more engaged than most audio books. Especially because the characters are likeable and it is well-written. Though taking a minute to catch up with new elements of the plot, it was over all easy to follow. What I didn't like about the storyline: Shelton put a lot of emphasis on youth and standard beauty in a way that made it feel, at least to me, like those are by far the most important things in life. Especially for women. Also some weight-prejudice and sexist comments such as referring to a character as a "slut" as if these things made people worthless. I understand that these are supposed to be portraying the characters more than the author but at some point, it does both. I also understand that he is from another time. Regardless, it still would have been settling to see a bit of compassion and humanity in this regard. Not too prevalent over all, so I'd still recommend the book to others who may be offended by that sort of thing. As far as the narrator goes, he is great for reading the story over all, and does decent by some characters, but I was definitely taken out of the story at times with others who I didn't think we're being portrayed well. I acknowledge that to be quite a challenge and, even with wishing there were multiple people to voice the characters, found him to be above par.
Tracy's voice was a little bit annoying to me. I liked the voice of the other characters with the different accents an dialects.
