Unabridged Audiobook
This is the first book in The Long Price Quartet series by Daniel Abraham, and in my humble opinion, is a masterwork, and it hasn't received the far reaching recognition (or cover art for that matter) that I feel it deserves. Filled with masterfully written, relatable characters and poignant, deeply sad and beautiful story arcs, this may be my favorite series I have ever read. Abraham is also perhaps my favorite author, though I haven't read all of his works yet, his other series, The Dagger and the Coin, is fantastic, and he serves as co-writer for The Expanse, another series I absolutely love. I truly believe this series transcends most of the fantasy series I have read, and deserves to be seen as a contender with their greatness. I would love for Abraham to return to this world and flesh out the histories and futures of the brilliant world he has created. I can't recommend this series enough - it is different from anything I have ever read and took a bit for me to grasp the world I was reading into, but once I did, I fell in love, and I know I will return to this series time and time again. The narration of this audiobook is also excellent, however I do believe that a chapter or two may have been transplanted to the end of the recording. That happened for me at least, but not sure if the error was just a glitch. Regardless, it doesnt detract from my love for this series. 5 stars.
