Unabridged Audiobook
This was a freebie, so I can say it was worth a listen. The main character is certainly an interesting character whom I never was aware of, and the historical setting is an interesting one. There were some good points in the plot, but I found there to be too much talk and not enough continuation of the plot. I felt at times that it was slogging. That said, because I liked Alyce’s character, I would consider listening to a future installment. The narrator was OK, but something about her, even though she tried different voices and accents, that was not quite the level of the best of the narrators.
Interesting historical novel illuminating the life of a relatively unknown woman, Geoffrey Chaucer's granddaughter, the educated, wealthy, Alyce, Duchess of Suffolk. Also dramatizing a facet of the Hundred Years' War with realistic effect. The narrator was excellent, portraying characters with recognizable voices and accents, tailored to each individual- well-done!
