Summary
Snehild is born amidst a raid on a stormy, winter night. She is delivered by a mystical jötunn woman and as she slips into the world, the Norns breathe a prophecy over her.

Years later, Himlinge, the royal seat of Sialand, is suffering from political unrest. King Tormod suspects his brother-in-law is plotting against him. Royal advisor Brynjulf Raveneye worries about which of the twin princes should be heir to the throne. The high priestess Ragnfrid grows jealous of the local herbalist who is favoured by the royal family. Worst still, the herbalist’s daughter, Snehild, appears to have powerful prophetic powers that may threaten the priestess’ position. But at least there’s something she can do about that.

Except you can’t destroy a heroine destined for greatness and Snehild has the favour of the gods and the blessing of the Norns. She flees her home and embarks on a quest to discover herself, her parentage and the true extent of her powers.

'The Seer of Midgard' is a riveting high fantasy that will transport readers to an Iron-Age Scandinavia steeped in the rich and mystical traditions of Norse mythology.

Filled with court intrigue, blood revenge and powerful magic, fans of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and 'The Priory of the Orange Tree' will love this new series.

I loved the narrator and the poetic nature love, and the mythology. I look forward to another one. I do hope the same narrator does it!

A fantastic story, sometimes challenging to remember the names of characters and places but so worth the effort. Kristin Atherton is an excellent narrator. Waiting for book 2.

Game of Thrones x Vikings. I find myself rooting for Snehild, the unlikely heroine as complex and intricate as the Norse mythology brewing at the backdrop of her journey. What a great first for what could definitely be a blockbuster series. The narrator also captures every word and every feeling, just sublime narration.

I really enjoy how anthropology and mythology came together. There are wonderful female characters and the political intrigues make it a novel that comes alive for all readers. Hooked from the beginning to the end, though not for a conservative audience.

I finished the book but it was really hard to keep the people straight. I had to keep going back and listening again to figure out who was who.

this was a captivating tale, even as someone with only a little grasp of Norse mythology. the characters are well formed, and the descriptive language pulls you in. I could have used a little index with all the names of the gods and traditions and some meanings (better in a print book but..). other than that, wonderful
