Unabridged Audiobook
Thought provoking and thoughtful. An honesty from the heart that commands your full attention and consideration, and respect. This reader is grateful.
WINSTON-SALEM Stand Up!Chile....Candace you did the Damn thang. You made our hometown Winston-Salem, NC proud. The way you address Black single motherhood and our love for our mothers despite the downpour of struggles, hatred, and hypocrisy. How our mothers (at least my mother) is Our GOD in so many ways. How you highlighted how the Black church can be our saving grace and our downfall. I smile and had Deja Vu while reading this book/memoir. The plus was pointing out our toxic patriarchal society's and the way women, more specifically Black single women are revered and treated. You brought up one of my favorites, bell hooks and her plight in including Black women into the feminist fight. She is the reason Womanism (Feminism) exist and I live! Institutions, organizations and society as a whole continuously leaves us out until they need us to serve a purpose or to push a narrative. I love the way you eloquently described everything, even the painful things, to include your mothers procreation partner. Alike you, I share similar experiences and struggled with my religion based off what was taught and pushed. I learned that my God doesn't look the same as many perceive and I give myself grace to charter this world and it's mess. Thank you Candace a million times over. #Book14of2022 #Bookworm #Whatsnext ile....Candace you did the Damn thang. You made our hometown Winston-Salem, NC proud. Wonderful book. Benbow is an amazing writer and storyteller. I feel immense appreciation for this book because Benbow made me feel seen. I relate to so much of what she shared and will be reading the book over and over.
