Abridged Audiobook
A fantastic book!! Reads like a detective novel with the exception that it is real!! The history of the worlds first successful submarine, the search to locate it, and the efforts to raise and display it after 130 years on the bottom of Charleston harbor; is amazing and a book that can't be put down!! You will love this one!!!
Interesting from a historical point of view, even better regarding the trials and tribulations regarding the actual locating and recovering of the Hunley.
I knew a little about this ship but this book was a most interesting tale of it and the people who made it & ultimately who saved it. Having been in Charleston in the last 2 years & seen the replica near the Visitors' Center, this book made the replica much more real & fascinating. Nicely done & a good read!
Hicks and Kropf wrote an excellent story surrounding the mysterious Hunley. It was a good mix of historical background and the modern search for the missing boat all wrapped around the personal stories of those involved. I was unaware of the significance of this amazing piece of naval heritage. The narrator did an excellent job of reading and keeping me interested in the story. I highly recommend it.
An excellent book. Entertainingly written. After "hearing" book be sure to visit the Friends of the Hunley website for up-to-date information concerning ongoing research on the crew, restoration, and preservation.
This was a great book that kept my interest throughout. I rarely had to rewind to catch something I'd missed.
This was a very interesting listen. There was a good mix of historical fact, educated speculation, and current events surrounding the Hunley. Once you get in to it, you look forward to each listen anticipating what the next events will be. It's a great story of courage, determination, honor, and victory even in the face of tragedy and across the space of time from the conception of the Hunley to its rescue over a century later.
