William Kent Krueger is the award-winning author of the popular Cork O'Connor mysteries. In Purgatory Ridge, Krueger crafts a riveting tale which has ex-sheriff O'Connor on the case after a heated town debate turns deadly. The local Anishinaabe Indian tribe is furious to discover that Karl Lindstrom's lumber mill is after a grove of trees sacred to tribal lore. So when the mill gets bombed, killing a man, the tribe is blamed. But O'Connor has a different theory.

Excellent mystery and thriller... seasoned with the love and kindness that wraps the reader in constant wonderment on who will live ... who will die and why...and oh how I love the beauty of the Northwoods WKK writes so vividly about.... One of the best WKK Cork O'Connor books...should be a movie!!!!

When I had about an hour to go a nighttime thunderstorm and tornado watch came through. While I rooted for our heroes I was also jumping out of my skin. Suspenseful, horror, a few unexpected twists. I think I'll read the next one during the day! Kreuger manages to locate warmth and humanity and compassion through it all, despite obstacles. I loved it.
