Summary
Sexy psychic Simon Kincaide and skeptical homicide detective Vic D'Amato are getting married—if the ghost of a murderous magician doesn't get them first!

Simon and Vic's wedding is just a few weeks away, and they're hoping for a little peace and quiet to wrap up work before their honeymoon, but nothing ever goes that smoothly.

Strange circumstances around the death of a retired stage magician suggest supernatural involvement, bringing Simon in on the case. The dark secrets of a long-ago resort hotel lead to a trail of unsolved cold cases that have a chilling similarity. Old scandals, malicious magic, and vengeful spirits expose a web of lies, deceit, and death that is headed for a reckoning.

Can Simon and Vic solve the murders, stop the ghosts, keep Simon's mother from crashing the party, dodge last-minute wedding disasters, and still make it to the altar on time? Or will the shadows of Myrtle Beach's haunted past ruin everything?

Contains mature themes.

Okay, here is the thing. I absolutely love the Badlands series. There is a little bit of everything for everyone. Magic, mayhem, suspense, murder, mystery, action...and of course, romance. So when I saw that a new audiobook had been added, I jumped at the chance. Here are my thoughts. STORY: 4 Stars I really liked this story. Vic and Simon can't have an easy time when they are planning their wedding or trying to find a venue. That would be too picturebook perfect, and they are not that couple. LOL. Ghosts are causing mayhem, and together, they have to wrap up their case before they can say I Do and fly off on their honeymoon. But as always, there is danger lurking. The characters are great, the side characters are amazing and memorable, and the story pulls you in. That said, this one seemed a little like something was missing that the other stories possessed. I can't quite put my finger on it. It's still a great story that I loved, and I still recommend listening to or reading it, though. NARRATION: 4.5 Stars Kale did an excellent job of bringing these characters to life as always. Each has their own voice, their own mannerisms, and quirks that jump through the speakers and help to distinguish each one. OVERALL: 4 Stars I loved the book and have both read and listened to it. But there is something missing. It still comes alive in your head and heart, still has amazing characters, and you still want to cheer for Vic and Simon as they take you on their adventures. I will admit there was a time or two I wanted to yell look behind you. Ghosts can be anywhere. LOL. 4 stars and I suggest you one-click this one today!

I’m loving these guys (an audio review) I’ve listened to every audio in this series and so was glad to nab this one. Vic and Simon are finally getting married! Now, this is a Morgan Brice story, so there’s no way that mass chaos doesn’t follow my guys. With a mystery to solve, and timing running out, Vic takes on a murder that has supernatural elements and so, of course, that means bringing Simon in on the case. Things get dicey and it looks bad for a bit – especially when the guys realize they’re actually tackling a series of murders going back decades. This and oh, you know, actually get married??? Well, despite the disasters that befall them, the ghosts who want vengeance, and the threat of Simon’s odious mother appearing at the wedding, things finally seem to be going their way. I don’t want to spoil things, but I was incredibly satisfied at the end. I will say Kale Williams has done a phenomenal job narrating this series and I hope to see more of his work – including perhaps future collaborations with Morgan? I certainly hope I haven’t seen the end of Simon and Vic. I see cameos in their futures, if not an actual book…which I’d love!

This is the sixth volume in the Badland series and I recommend reading the books in order. You can read Point Blank as a standalone, but it's more fun to see how Simon and Vic's relationship has developed over the course of the series. I really enjoyed the author's writing style and it didn't take long for me to become completely immersed in the book. If you like romance, thrills, suspense and the paranormal, this is the book for you. Psychic Simon, who has a business in Myrtle Beach, attracts ghosts in trouble. This time he has to deal with a resort hotel where a number of unsolved murders are piling up. He gets help from Vic as well as from the police and local magical beings. It was fun following the various clues and theorizing about the murderer. And let me tell you, Simon has his hands full with the ghosts who are out of control. Simon and Vic's wedding is also coming up. Not everything goes according to plan here either. The family have to move to alternative accommodation and Simon's mother threatens to break up the wedding with her presence. Can the series of murders be solved in time? And will they be able to enjoy their wedding? Simon and Vic are very likeable protagonists who have grown very close to my heart. I was really rooting for them and hoping that everything would work out with the wedding. At the same time, it was super exciting to follow the case and see protagonists from earlier volumes again. Kale Williams narrated the series and I was very pleased to listen to his voice again because I really enjoy his performance. He adds depth to each character and he portrays the emotions brilliantly. He also finds a suitable voice for each character and gets both the tone and pace of the scenes perfect. He did a brilliant job.

Vic D’Amato is a detective, his partner on the force is Ross. Their specialty is solving cases with ghosts or spirits along with psychic Simon Kincade. This case is intriguing because it’s about an old hotel and the people who entertained, worked or stayed and died there. It is also close to Vic and Simon’s wedding so double the stress. This story is dramatic, steamy and witty. The characters take you on an adventure you won’t want to miss.

I really enjoyed the mystery here, ghosts, magicians, and a demolished seaside hotel. In fact I'd have liked more of it, more of the writer and the filmmaker as they felt more important than they eventually ended up being. I was actually disappointed when the mystery was obviously wrapped up and there was still over an hour of the audiobook left. The wedding was lovely, and I liked the 'everything's going wrong' parts of the book, but I did think the extra chapters devoted to the bachelor parties and the wedding day preparations (spa, hair etc), then the wedding itself, could have been shortened. The author focused far too much on these things and if I'd been reading rather than listening in the car I'd probably have started skimming. With that said, Kale Williams does a great job with the audio, as usual.

This book us so good! While it is a supernatural thriller, it also has a great deal of spice and also has the sweetest wedding ceremony I have ever heard! This is the 6th book in the series and I have read 2 others prior to listening to this one. But, it's not necessary to have read any, as the author keeps you apprised along the way. I highly recommend this audiobook!

This was a pretty good listen - I'd give the story itself a 3.5, rounded up to a 4. If you've enjoyed previous Badlands books, it's worth continuing. The audio narration was great - Kale Williams never disappoints with his talent of making books even better with his performance. There was a lot going on, so far as the mystery/ghost story/bad guy to catch portion of it. (The involvement of historical magical items kind of reminded me of Josh Lanyon's Magician Murders, although that has an entirely different sort of overall plot.) Several of the previous Brice/Gail Z. Martin-verse books touched on the trafficking of paranormal creatures, people or relics, a sort of black market, but this was a uniquely Simon/Vic/Myrtle Beach danger to neutralize. Although said danger was definitely lethal and they were working against a clock of sorts, (what with having to stay alive and make it to their wedding), I wasn't intensely sucked into the race to resolution. I think the aspects of the story that focused on Simon & Vic's relationship and wedding overshadowed it - for some listeners/readers, that will not be an issue, but I've been reading/listening to a lot of heavy duty suspense, so I think I needed more adrenaline. I'm still totally invested in this series and the Brice/Martin connected world though. On the major plus side, for those who have been following the related Brice/Martin series, there are fantastic cameos. I loved seeing so many Deadly Curiosities characters in particular; (Simon is a cousin of that series' main character). For those who haven't read those books, that shouldn't change general understanding of the story - it's just cool for those who have. A secondary plus for me was that the excessive repetition and occasional very slight inconsistencies in some of Brice/Martin's older works lessened enough that I didn't get pulled out, thinking, "Didn't we just go over this in the last chapter?" or "Why are they saying that the last thing they had to eat were burgers? They just had breakfast before getting in the car." It's not totally without repetition, but it's mostly the sort to subtly jog the memory of readers who haven't read the previous books recently, which was forgivable.

I read this book with my eyes about a year ago and was so happy to get to experience it all over again as an audiobook. Kale Williams has been the voice of all of the Badlands series books and I'm so happy that he was able to perform this one as well. Below is what I wrote when I first read the book. The only thing I can add is what a wonderful job Kale Williams did performing this story. Vic and Simon Forever! Simon and Vic are getting married – finally!!

The detective and the psychic. Simon and Vic. This story has plenty of suspense and ghostly attacks and a wedding. Paranormal and realistic characters keep you listening. This story can be listened too as a standalone. Kale Williams did a great job with the narration. His voice is so smooth and really brought this book to life. I really enjoyed this story.

Kale Williams does an amazing job of bringing, not only Simon and Vic to life, but the whole wedding party and the bad guys they deal with leading up to it.Vic and Simon's wedding is almost here but the biggest stress is not if the caterer will still have shrimp. The Ocean Paradise Hotel may have looked beautiful but glamor can hide all kinds of horrors. Vic and Simon will have to deal with them before they can walk down the aisle.Brice manages to make this trip to the vows spooky yet special and since they have stated that the story should not end with marriage, we can hope there are still more adventures to be had in Myrtle Beach.

I love Simon and Vic and ALL of this author’s characters in her interconnected world. These two have a massive case to solve before their wedding but there is nothing they can’t handle together and with a little help from their friends. It was great to see some characters from Deadly Curiosities too towards the end. Absolutely loved it. Definitely worth a read. I can’t wait to see what you lose Simon and Vic will get up to now that they are married. Kale Williams does a great job. He brought these guys to life. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
