Summary
On the surface, the galaxy seems peaceful. Humankind prospers from the Capital World to the far reaches of The Corridor. But to those who can see the signs, it's clear something is wrong. Long, dark fingers are pulling strings inside the military, making clandestine deals with enemy states, and fulfilling some dark design. Calvin is an intelligence agent working for the Imperial government. He's young, his methods are unorthodox, but he gets results. So when a former military hero steals a warship and goes rogue--threatening to start a war, Calvin is sent to eliminate him. But as he chases his prey across the stars, he realizes they are both pawns in a shadowy chess game that shakes kingdoms, divides empires, and threatens civilization everywhere. And if he is to uncover the mystery and expose the conspiracy he must confront--and embrace--the darkest elements of the galaxy and throw himself, his career, and everyone he loves into the line of fire.

I was taken a back by this book. The narrator is spectacular and the story even more intriguing. I had to immediately reactivate my subscription to listen to to next one!

Absolutely loved this book and look forward to the next book in the series. Love both author and narrator.

In spite of fine narration, I cannot recommend “The Phoenix Conspiracy.” I found the story ridiculous, and sometimes disgusting, with many credibility issues. Improbable images include “blood-soaked ground” aboard a starship and a drugged drink delivered via French kiss. Yech! The characters are NOT inspiring. Language and terminology are flawed. In addition, the author fails to grasp basic physics or to appreciate movement through three dimensions. I feel no urge to listen to the second volume of this series.

It started well, but degenerated into a kindergarten fight which could have been set in any scene. The science part was less believable, narration was good

Profile Avatar Sonofnothing Feb 2021

The narrator bored me to tears. It was enough that every other chapter the volume would fluctuate. The cadence and energy used to deliver self reflecting moments, to subtle physical details of the ship, to bullets whizzing by and the panic of a ship about to self destruct.. All the same. Meh.

it was great!

Profile Avatar Michael B. Feb 2025

Kind of sucked…

Profile Avatar Scott W. Feb 2025

Looking forward to rest of the series.

This is a decent enough story. Definitely worth a listen. But…. Listen, the descriptions of how attractive the main character finds every single female he meets have made me laugh out loud. He doesn’t come out and say it, but you can tell who is a 1 and who is a 10… and it is mentioned in just about every interaction. I’m currently listening to the second book and it’s the SAME way. :)

Profile Avatar R C. Nov 2024

feels like the author continues to add new content as the book is read. as if they are developing new ideas as it's written. the narrator was okay. didn't change voices with the females which was weird

Profile Avatar Rod H. Oct 2024

Great book love the plot !

Profile Avatar Pol Reamonn Aug 2024

I love my Space Opera and Space Military Sagas but this one, along with its narration didn't work for me at all. As I couldn't fathom where this story was headed and cared nothing for the one dimensional characters, I gave up listening to it.

Profile Avatar Rico S. May 2024

Easy going story line and plot with a few twist... Similar to The Frontiers Saga by Ryk Brown or Odyssey One by Evan Currie...The characters are a bit too "easy" and black/white, but easy listening- think I'll listen to then next one in the series also

The book and the narrator was great!

Profile Avatar Alexina K. Aug 2023

Love it - great narrator and very gripping story

Profile Avatar Roger L. Jun 2023

Lots of plot twists. Not overly 'scienced' to death. Entertaining reader.

Profile Avatar Arthur W. Apr 2023

Great book. Suspenseful and well written. Reminded me of Thrawn books

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2023

if only he could describe in more detail how the female characters looked.... and that she obviously was handed her career on a silver platter... I could not continue with this apparently (only because I could not make it further than 30 minutes) sexist narrative.

Profile Avatar Cerberus Feb 2023

Amazing listening.

Profile Avatar DutchThePyro Feb 2023

What a great book!

Profile Avatar Thomas J. Oct 2022

Been through all 7 books now. This is the epic start of a great tale

Profile Avatar Joshua H. Oct 2022

Basic writing in this book, it feels more written for younger teens. The narrator isn't bad, but when you're used to god tier narrators games workshop' Black Library use (Toby Longworth, Johnathan keeble) you kind of can't listen to anything else without being put of. Now I'm stuck in a rut where I can't listen to anything that isn't by the above two narrators. Book starts better, gets worse. I may try the second but the narrator can't make the book any better, I don't even think the two narrators above could make it any better, that said they probably could make it at least more enjoyable to listen to.

Profile Avatar Brian M. Sep 2022

The book and the narration was addictive for me. Lots of action and energy. Everything was done so well, I plan to listen to the entire series.

Profile Avatar Christopher S. Aug 2022

the book is great there unfortunately was not much talk of the science of the drives the ships use and I kinda wish there was a bit more history of the universe but that's just the nerd in me as for the story it was very well written and the narrator was fantastic how he brought the characters to life

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2022

Great and detailed book, kept me up all night

Profile Avatar Edward N. Jul 2022

Much of personal interactions are awkward and forced. There is a romance element that is put of place and done poorly. The scene in ing the lead female chrarter and the lead male character was cringe inducing. Matters involving the military did not ring true at some key points in the story. The mutiny section of the book was not exciting, and read as list of all the thins that can happen during a mutiny. I listened to this book because I was interested in how much of a train wreck it would become. There is more, but this is enough for this review. It is good that the author has a day job as a lawyer. .

Profile Avatar Carol B. Apr 2022

A fully enjoyable Audio. The narrator is super. The story well told with many twists and turns. The characters were well developed, especially the main character with all his charms and faults. I especially admired his insistence to find the truth, whatever. Will I continue on with the next book? Maybe… hmmm, I would like to find out how the story goes on, but I was mostly interested in the main character, so it depends on whether he continues to be the main character or not.

Profile Avatar Ed H. Mar 2022

The narrator is absolutley fantastic! He makes this engaging space adventure a real joy to listen to.

Profile Avatar Tiger Rose Mar 2022

excellent

Profile Avatar Darlene S. Feb 2022

Enjoyed this book and narrative was awesome

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2022

After an hour, I couldn't keep listening. I thought the character development needed work. Their dialog was uninteresting--approaching stereotypical. The science was weak and the narration was mechanical.

Profile Avatar James Steele Dec 2021

I think it was a decent book

Profile Avatar Bettina K. Dec 2021

This was my first experience trying audiobooks and I couldn't be more surprised! The narrator gives the story, which is very intriguing and detailed, some sort of magic that you can see everything that is happening right in front of your eyes. So so so so so goooooooooood!!!!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2021

Great story and narrator. Can’t wait to start book 2.

Profile Avatar Lethon W. Oct 2021

For me, it seems as narrator made this read come to life. The author created very well told outlook at possible futuristic battles to preserve human life.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2021

This is awesome I loved it

Profile Avatar Danny Smith Sep 2021

superb book. can't wait to read the next episode.

Profile Avatar Linn E. Aug 2021

The narrator was good, but The book was boring, predictable, The characters 1 dimentional, behaving very uncharacteristic and generally in a unbelievable fashion. The view of how a woman thinks and feels is archaic and this seems to be written by someone that has not conversed with women at a deeper level.

Profile Avatar Justin O Jul 2021

Interesting. A good listen if you like this style. Moving onto the 2nd.

Profile Avatar Bradley B. Jun 2021

I cant believe this book was free, definitely hooked on the series now

Profile Avatar Matthew M. Jun 2021

I am intrigued by this story. I will check out the next book... because I am not sure if this is a slow build to the series or just a slow burning writer.
