Unabridged Audiobook
I love Robin Cook books. this was Fantastic and I highly recommend this book.
This was my second Robin Cook book in quick succession- and I've not listened to them in order. This story was somewhat bizzare given the title of the book - The dictionary definition of a Pandemic is a disease which is prevalent throughout an entire country, continent or the whole world. They only have two cases and start calling it a pandemic! I'm certain that no ME would use that word with only two cases.Even when the whole of New York goes on high alert, they still didn't have enough information to call it a pandemic. So for those people looking for end of world style stories (The Stand, The last Tribe etc) - this is NOT the book for you. There are no last people on earth scenarios. This is simply the story of an ME investigating a mystery virus which they are worried might be contagious. That is not to say it's a terrible book. I actually thought the premis was quite good, and I learnt quite a bit about viral genetics and the manipulation of genes.
Robin Cook does it again. Pandemic gives thought to how there must be safeguards to pushing the panic button and a way to say, "Take backsies."
Rather disappointed. This book focused not so much upon the pandemic as political struggles of a medical examiner. There was no pandemic. The narrator sounded gravelly and like someone with dentures falling out and trying to keep from coughing!! Really quite distracting.
