Summary
The Old Wives' Tale is a novel by Arnold Bennett, first published in 1908. It deals with the lives of two very different sisters, Constance and Sophia Baines, following their stories from their youth, working in their mother's draper's shop, into old age. It is generally regarded as one of Bennett's finest works. It covers a period of about 70 years from roughly 1840 to 1905, and is set in Burslem and Paris. (Summary by Andy)

Very enjoyable

This was an excellent story with equally compelling narration. A quiet but complex story about life, want, success, failure and will. Strength of character prevails. It tugged at all of my emotions. Andy Minter adds so much depth to this tale. Most highly recommended.

The story itself is engaging, with many interesting period details and smatterings of history. As to the narrator Andy Minter, I cannot praise him enough. Thinking that he might be a professional narrator or actor, I researched his name, only to discover, sadly, that he is no longer with us. Luckily Libravox has other examples of his talent.
