Summary
Moving from Reykjavík to the rural village of Búdardalur in Iceland, a successful yet overworked and divorced master chef, Bragi, hopes to start a new life with his two teenagers. He buys an old house by the sea and takes over management of a local motel and restaurant. Soon, a mysterious woman walks in: Karitas. Bragi feels strangely attracted to her. Thinking he's in love, he convinces himself Karitas will be part of his new life. But mysterious and increasingly horrific events show there is a dark force feeding on the suffering of the villagers and Karitas needs his help to stop it growing stronger.

Great folk horror novel! I loved how the author wove Icelandic culture and folklore into the story, and found the mysteries of the plot to be satisfying and the revelations surprising. I'd recommend this to fans of folk horror or anyone interested in Iceland. Hoping to see more translations of the author's work soon!
