Summary
An io9 Can’t Miss Science Fiction and Fantasy title.

Martin Banks is just a normal guy who has made an abnormal discovery: he can manipulate reality, thanks to reality being nothing more than a computer program. With every use of this ability, though, Martin finds his little “tweaks” have not escaped notice. Rather than face prosecution, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.

What could possibly go wrong?

An American hacker in King Arthur’s court, Martin must now train to become a full-fledged master of his powers, discover the truth behind the ancient wizard Merlin…and not, y’know, die or anything.

I love this series. A good mix of fantasy, sci-fi and light hearted comedy. I wish the series continued after the Vexed Generation. Most books in the series are my go to when I am too anxious for sleep. The first book has a dark ending, but there's enough hours building to the conclusion to distract until sleep.

I've been listening to a lot of litRPG lately and this book was a nice reprieve from the amount of angst that you normally find in litRPG. It feels similar to gamelit novels, but doesn't feature some of the classic tropes like character leveling, etc. It's a fun adventure that reminded me of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett in that the powerful wizards are just a bunch of goofs.

Predictable start, grew into an interesting story concept, then fell flat with a disappointing final act. Narrator was excellent.
