Unabridged Audiobook
It was a great short story. I listened to this on my drive to Texas, and I enjoyed it very much. I'm glad I picked this one!
It was an okay quick read. The pacing towards the beginning was good but got more confusing throughout the rest of the book. There wasn’t really any buildup or character development so unfortunately I’m not entirely sure what I’m supposed to take away or gain from listening to it. Not bad, just not great.
Worth listening too, but didn't quite meet the potential I thought it could have. Wonderful, creepy setting and plot, but honestly many of the characters were unlikable, or felt like afterthoughts. The prose and imagery driven writing dominates this book, which wasn't a huge negative for me. I thought it sounded like poetry and was a creative way to write. However, I would have loved more tension building or back stories for characters, ghosts, or both, instead of the characters spending their time cursing each other out. There is a lot of Japanese culture in this story, which is appropriate. Just be prepared to look things up if you're not versed in it. The ending seems abrupt, and honestly doesn't meet the potential of the tension for me. Overall: Worth a spooky listen, with a lot of imagery and prose. A lot of the language does worm its way in and make you feel uncomfortable and tense. However, It may not meet the expectations you were expecting with such a captivating plot, and you may have a hard time feeling anything for many of the characters in the end.
