I enjoy the "fictional" non fiction history genre. Great narration. Too easily are the American priveledged forgetful Of the not so distant past.
Good story line. Has politics, mystery, and love. Excellent representation of Cuba’s past
I really enjoyed this book. Wonderful mix of story & history. Loved the narrators.
It was okay
I absolutely love this book. Having been to Havana a couple of times it was wonderful to hear a real Cuban’s point of you of their beautiful city. It was also heartbreaking to listen to what families went through when they had to escape Cuba. I didn’t wanted the book to end.
The story line was not very believable which made it difficult to connect with the characters. Some interesting narratives of Cuban history and culture.
I was very disappointed in this book. The storyline in 2017 was unbelievable. I really never felt anything for the characters. I didn't like them or dislike them. I just didn't care. The long speeches that were used to explain the history, etc. dragged on and were interesting. There was a cadence to the speech that I found to be very distracting. It sounded unnatural. I don't know if it was because of the writing or the narrator. I would not have bothered finishing it if we weren't reading it for book club.
The story was pretty bland for me. And also do unrealistic I felt. The narrator for Marisol was great but the one who narrates for Elisa was sooo BLAH... monotone and depressive sounding. Wanted to love the book but it was just ok. I did enjoy hearing about Cuba and the different perspectives though.
I loved this book!... What's better than 2 love stories while learning about history. So well written . I enjoyed the story line very much. I miss the characters now that the book is over. ... That's how I know it was a good book!
This book gave me the chills. It has historical elements, politics, the Cuban family culture, romance & heartbreak. Communism breaks my heart. Oppression is sad & just isn't right to do.
