Summary
From the New York Times bestselling authors of America’s First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton—a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. Haunting, moving, and beautifully written, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza’s story as it’s never been told before—not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal—but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.

A general’s daughter…

Coming of age on the perilous frontier of revolutionary New York, Elizabeth Schuyler champions the fight for independence. And when she meets Alexander Hamilton, Washington’s penniless but passionate aide-de-camp, she’s captivated by the young officer’s charisma and brilliance. They fall in love, despite Hamilton’s bastard birth and the uncertainties of war.

A founding father’s wife...

But the union they create—in their marriage and the new nation—is far from perfect. From glittering inaugural balls to bloody street riots, the Hamiltons are at the center of it all—including the political treachery of America’s first sex scandal, which forces Eliza to struggle through heartbreak and betrayal to find forgiveness.

The last surviving light of the Revolution…

When a duel destroys Eliza’s hard-won peace, the grieving widow fights her husband’s enemies to preserve Alexander’s legacy. But long-buried secrets threaten everything Eliza believes about her marriage and her own legacy. Questioning her tireless devotion to the man and country that have broken her heart, she’s left  with one last battle—to understand the flawed man she married and imperfect union he could never have created without her…

One of my favorites. Loved it. Excellent way to absorp history from a different perspective

Read this and RC’s book before seeing the Broadway Series play Hamilton, and both gave me insight in what was happening! The Book has Good historical content mixed with best guess fiction. A very nice historical fiction book based on Eliza Hamiltons point of view. It is long read though. I felt some things could have been left out and should have, to be more concise, but other than that an enjoyable audible read!

Fascinating, if a bit wordy, book. Excellent narrator.

I have read/listened to most of the historical fiction on Hamiltons and surrounding figures. I was reluctant about this one as it felt more fiction than historical. However, I was wrong to write it off. Incredible story telling with emphasis on the emotional and lived experience of Eliza. The narration is one of best I’ve listened to, superb with great use of dialect and accents. The story really takes you on a powerful (and some times steamy) journey of love, loss, and living at this moment in time. Highly recommend

Loved this perspective after seeing the musical, Hamilton.

I bought both My Dear Hamilton and Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, as I love the Broadway musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I already have above average knowledge of the time (I'm a genealogist) and Hamilton is my favorite Founding Father. But I wanted a wider base of knowledge to draw upon when enjoying the musical. I also enjoy a good love story with angst just like most women. My Dear Hamilton did just that. You can tell the authors did research while writing this book. And for those who are fans of Eliza Schuyler-Hamilton this a great book to read/listen too as its told in first person perspective (Eliza is the Narrator). I also highly recommend reading/listening to this book in conjunction with Ron Chernow's biography, that the musical is based on. I was very pleased.
