Summary
#1 bestselling author Stephenie Meyer makes a triumphant return to the world of Twilight with this highly anticipated companion: the iconic love story of Bella and Edward told from the vampire's point of view.
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.
This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward's past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?
In Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer transports us back to a world that has captivated millions of readers and brings us an epic novel about the profound pleasures and devastating consequences of immortal love.

It was a very lovely reading

Stephenie Meyer repeated the twilight story again and sold it to me. Really? I feel I was foolish to purchase. Loved the Twilight series. Wise she had invested time writing about what happened to Bella and Edward's daughter. How about continuing the love story after their daughter was grown and had a home of her own. It would have kept the characters moving forward and an opportunity to enjoy what was so great about the past books. Thanks for nothing new. I would have rather reread the original book again than to hear the exact story told over again with few alterations. An example of a repeated story would be the baseball game and the three vampires. It was exact same event and the exact same outcome. It may be appreciated by some readers who wish to relive the stories, but for me it was a repeat of a story I already know. I did not need to purchase a new book. I should have saved money and read the Twilight copy I already have in my library.

I loved the twilight story's. Truly! But, this one I found to be very hard to continue to read. All Edward did was whine his way all through this book. From his thirst of Bella's blood, Whine. To his obsession with Bella. Whine. To his poor pitiful me, being a vampire. Whine.

loved, loved, loved this book

For fans of twilight, you'll love it. It was cool to see the other viewpoint, especially during the parts that Bella was left in the dark on. Edward is just an moody as we all thought. The narrator is pretty animated, and keeps you interested in the story.

I loved it!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

I love the fact that the story is through Edward's eyes it's a nice shift in a story and even though it's the same story from the other books there are enough changes to it that it, makes a big difference, I do think that if the reader was a younger Male it might make it a bit better for girls or others that like the books enjoy it a bit more, only because it would help with the image you create in your mind with the story or the image of Edward you have in your mind not from the movies lol.

Profile Avatar Gege Murphy Aug 2020

Nice book. I enjoyed Edward's perspective. Brings me back to the old days.

Profile Avatar Thomas M. Aug 2020

It seems to be skipping a lot.

love it!! ❤️ I think he's side of the story is very interesting and very good! gives more life to all the characters! ❤️

Profile Avatar Meghan D. Jun 2022

Loved it and narrated very well. Some parts I felt like it dragged on but enjoyed hearing the story from Edward's perspective.

I loved it from Edward's perspective

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2021

it is awesome

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

I was having trouble reading the physical book because my internal monologue was female. This allowed me to enjoy a book fully and without biased.

Profile Avatar Jamie B. Sep 2020

I’m sorry, but this book pained me to listen to. I was really excited to read this, because I love the Twilight series, but I was very disappointed. I feel Edward just repeated the same thing over and over again, and was constantly whining. However, I had to finish it. I seriously wanted to stop after the 6th chapter. Sorry, Stephanie.

Profile Avatar Dizzyorphan Apr 2025

Overall, this was the most fun I’ve had with any of the Twilight books and would say that it is my favorite that Stephanie Meyer has written. The relationships between the Cullens are the stronger parts of the novel and I found myself less interested during the action scenes at the end of the novel. I also found the novel very funny at times, but hard to tell if that was intentional or not. Would definitely recommend.

Profile Avatar Erica P. Mar 2025

Obsessed! Will listen to this over and over !

Profile Avatar SpaceDragon Feb 2025

This is the best narrator I have ever listened to!! He brought LIFE to the characters. amazing!

Profile Avatar Melissa O. Apr 2024

Love love LOVE this book! I enjoy the Twilight saga so much and appreciated the unique view Edward presented. I was hopeful that it would follow the entire sage, but this was just the first book from Edwards point of view. I hope she writes more!

Profile Avatar Kait Jan 2024

Gone through this book two times now haha I'm glad I did too, crazy how many details you forget when it's been a while since you read it the first time. Nice to hear it with a narrator my 2nd time through.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2023

TRAGICALLY overwritten and whiny </3 I wish it was a briefer retelling of the entire saga from Edward’s perspective rather than just the first story

Profile Avatar Erin H. Jan 2023

I LOVED hearing/knowing what it was like from Edwards point of view!! I also loved that it went into more detail about him and and all the vampire's and how they came to be and some of the things they went through!! I seriously would LOVE a book on each one in the Cullen Coven.

Profile Avatar Lethycia M. Nov 2022

Giving it two stars only because of ~nostalgia~ but literally cannot get myself to finish this. I was SO excited when I started but physically cannot get myself past the halfway mark. I just can’t. I’m so bored

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2022

This one is for the twilight nerds. I love this book. It gives more insights in the Cullen family and how their powers work and their history. It provided more details of Edward falling in love, the meadow scene, and Edward watching the tape. This book changed the way I view New Moon. It was so interesting reading Edward's thoughts and feelings. Edward feels things so deeply and I'm so here for it. Jake Abel does an amazing job narrating and is absolute perfection!

Profile Avatar Leslie O. Jun 2021

I agree with Anonymous! I loved the Twilight storylines, and initially thought this would be an interesting perspective from Edward's side of the story! It is entirely TOO detailed and goes way over the top to show how possessive, adoring and obsessed he is with Bella. After reading it, it's impossible to believe this person, even being a supernaturally gifted vampire, could have survived over a hundred years without whining himself to death, or becoming so mentally unstable as to have done something rash that would have resulted in his death, or for him, or his companions, to have killed him because they dad become so insanely bored to death with his repressed, obsessive ramblings! I, too, could barely finish this book, and only did so because of the allure of the original books/movies.

Profile Avatar Iona M. Jun 2021

I read all the comments before buying it and they were right : Edward complains a lot

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2021

Loved it! Enjoyed the different perspective and will wait anxiously for the others!

Profile Avatar Jolene S. Mar 2021

30 minutes in and it sucks

Profile Avatar Just L. Mar 2021

I don’t know.. this is not what I would expect from Edward point of view. Not enough intensity or suspense for his character to me.. he is such a drawing soul book should of been more along lines of his powers the vision hearing movement of such abilities not so ‘human’ then again what do I know.

Profile Avatar Chris P. Mar 2021

I loved the twilight series and was looking forward to reading this. I was disappointed though. I felt like there was too much repetition of the feelings and thoughts that Edward was going through. I like how descriptive it was but it went on far too long. To me this made him look weak and not the character he was in the series.

Profile Avatar Laurenskiles Feb 2021

Absolutely loved this book! Took me back to my teenage days of twilight posters on my wall and let me relive the story over again with more insight from a different perspective. Stephanie Meyer is a genius!

Profile Avatar Chrystalynn C. Feb 2021

I am a huge Twilight fan. I have read all of Mrs. Meyer’s books in this series at least 5 times and plan to reread them all again. I loved this book and am excited to reread Twilight again knowing Edward’s thoughts. LOVED IT!!

Profile Avatar Janey A. Nov 2020

Awesome totally cool

Profile Avatar Audrey S. Oct 2020

The narration was great! I think Meyer's writing got better. It's a good book if you haven't read Twilight in a while like myself. I was a pre-teen when I started the series and I'm now in my mid-twenties, definitely brought back some nostalgia. With that said it's not bad at all, just not my cup of tea anymore. If you like a dramatic, whiney, emotional, and stalky protagonist, a "not like other girls" love interest, and awkward vampires then you'll love this. Not a jab at the writer, its a genre that particular people are into and that's all good!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2020

I’ll save you 25 hours. Edward: I love Bella but I can’t be with her!!! Insert smiles, then angst, then smiles- you get the picture. One of the worst audio books I’ve ever purchased. It’s pretty much Edwards inner monologue and it’s boring as all get out. It got slightly better toward the end with Victoria, James and Laurent. If you’re a die hard fan, you’ll prob buy this. (And I really enjoyed the other books but this is really shesh)

Profile Avatar Marie M. Oct 2020

I'm so happy this is out. stephanie meyer is amazing ! I hope there will be more

Profile Avatar Darya R. Oct 2020

Amazingly written. Her choice of words and how she use them in a sentence is a work of art. Her descriptions are mind blowing. The narrator is amazing, he chose a good job.

Profile Avatar Thomas V. Sep 2020

Agree with some people that Edward was whiny! Ugh

Profile Avatar Nicole M. Sep 2020

This book is not a great piece of literature, and is not a new story. It also doesn’t claim to be. I enjoyed the addition of some back stories of the rest of the Cullens since Edward can hear their thoughts, and, overall, it was really just an exercise in escapism, which was what my 2020 was in need of. Yes, Edward is whiny as all get out, but at least nothing he’s whining about has to do with Covid.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

The writer stayed very close to the "Twilight" book. I would think this would have been an easy book to write. A Twilighter will enjoy this book.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

Yesssssssss Money well spent!! Thankyou Stephany This was better than expected , best addicting escape ever!! I wish it was your voice though<3

Profile Avatar Chelsea S. Aug 2020

I am a huge fan of the Twilight series and even though I knew going into this book that it would be just another iteration of the first book but from Edwards prospective, I was excited but also bored right off the bat. Before even starting it. Hearing a bit more about some things was Great, really loved that. I would get specific but I don't want to spoil anything for potential readers. Edward, oh, our sweet Edward. What a whiney jerk. Really. I understood him from the first books and I've re-read them a few times each. He feels intensely and his inner battle with "I don't want to leave you but if you stay with my you'll lose your soul and ill hate myself forever" It honestly was so repetitive and and I would groan OUT LOUD hearing it. All that being said - I still enjoyed this book enough to recommend it and if she comes out with anything else ( I hear that there may be 2 more?) I will absolutely be reading/listening to them as well! Narration: I really like Jake Abel. Im a huge listener to audiobooks and have had the pleasure of listening to many different people read differently from the next and can appreciate them all. Im unsure if Jake has done any other audio books but for me it sounded like his first. It was good! Though hard to differentiate between when Edward was talking to himself in his head or if he was speaking to someone out Loud. I know mistakes happen but I feel I almost have a trained ear for that difference and it was hard to recall where you even were in the book, like, were they still in the car or had they gotten out and into the house/school yet? that kind of thing. I also put that on the writing as well. I think Jake Abel, if he continues to do audiobooks there is no doubt he will only get better. It was still a pleasure to listen.

Profile Avatar Jennifer S. Aug 2020

It was great hearing it from Edward’s point of view. But it was very repetitive about leaving her, I am not good for her, it was getting annoying. I wished they chose a younger narrator or someone who sounds younger. The voice doesn’t sound like a 17 year old so it was hard to place the voice with the character of seventeen year old Edward.
