Summary
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of I Owe You One, an utterly delightful novel about a woman who ditches her dating app for a writer's retreat in Italy--only to find that real love comes with its own filters
Call Ava romantic, but she thinks love should be found in the real world, not on apps that filter men by height, job, or astrological sign. She believes in feelings, not algorithms. So after a recent breakup and dating app debacle, she decides to put love on hold and escapes to a remote writers' retreat in coastal Italy. She's determined to finish writing the novel she's been fantasizing about, even though it means leaving her close-knit group of friends and her precious dog, Harold, behind.
At the retreat, she's not allowed to use her real name or reveal any personal information. When the neighboring martial arts retreat is canceled and a few of its attendees join their small writing community, Ava, now going by 'Aria,' meets 'Dutch,' a man who seems too good to be true. The two embark on a baggage-free, whirlwind love affair, cliff-jumping into gem-colored Mediterranean waters and exploring the splendor of the Italian coast. Things seem to be perfect for Aria and Dutch.
But then their real identities--Ava and Matt--must return to London. As their fantasy starts to fade, they discover just how different their personal worlds are. From food choices to annoying habits to sauna etiquette . . . are they compatible in anything? And then there's the prickly situation with Matt's ex-girlfriend, who isn't too eager to let him go. As one mishap follows another, it seems while they love each other, they just can't love each other's lives. Can they reconcile their differences to find one life together?

Throughout this story, I was torn as to whether I liked it or not. I’ve decided it was sweet and a fun read. The protagonist was lovely and likable while also cloying and self-righteous which made me nuts and frustrated me. But after a time, perhaps what was really frustrating was the realization that we often have the exact thoughts, worries, concerns and outbursts in a new relationship that she did in the book and it was a hard unpleasant look in the mirror in truth! I’ve been married for over twenty years so it took a moment to say “oh yes, I remember those days” and then to think in horror “Good God! Was I at all like that?!?!”. I’ve decided I wasn’t (LOL) but I did have many of those thoughts. It was a well told tale and it was constantly moving forward while leading the reader with anticipation of what happened next. I’d recommend it.

I enjoyed several of Sophie’s older books, but this one just wasn’t my cup of tea. I didn’t like how they were trying to force a relationship that did not align with their base needs and were not being truthful about it. The plot was good and great narration, and I know many people would enjoy this book especially if you like humorous, eye-rolling, relationship development.

The narrator is great and had me so invested in Ava. A great story. I struggled a little mid book, feeling the story got a little less interesting, but it picked up again shortly after.

Narration is superb. I liked best the example and thought processes that develop a long-lasting relationship. Otherwise, eh; better than some.

I went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. Ultimately, I chose to give it 3. The narrator is great. But the story is just okay. It will keep your attention. But it won’t keep you up at night. Shopaholic books are better, but they only come in at about a 4 for me. So maybe, if you love shopaholic, you’ll like this a lot too. I just don’t think this is my genre.

As a Canadian, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to President Obama narrating his book.. I sincerely believe that there has not been a more over-all beneficial President of the USA both to the States and to the international scene for a long time. To desend from his level of decency and humanity to what followed him into the White House is unbelievable. I cannot believe that the American people put DJT into Office without the help and push from Russia. President Obama set a standard that will be hard to equal, unless McConnell is somehow removed from his position of control which will enable Biden to succeed in passing his agenda to actually help the American people.
