Summary
You know that squirmy sensation in your gut when you have no idea what you're doing and you're about to screw everything up?

Yeah, that feeling.

I thought I was a good judge of character, but recent events proved me very wrong. Now, in a brilliant demonstration of my newfound caution, I'm putting all my faith in a demon-a demon who's tried to kill me before. The squirmy feeling is making sense, right?

Unfortunately, I don't have any other options. Ezra's time is almost up, which means I need answers and I need them fast. So it's time to toughen up, pack my gear, and find me one of the most illegal, reviled, and scarce mythics out there: a demon-mage summoner.

And all I have to do is follow a demon's instructions on where to look. How could that go wrong?

Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen, available summer 2020.

Gripping Race Against Time and Against the Odds – What an Adventure! Annette Marie has become a tried and trusted author with this series. Annette’s writing style is intelligent and easy to sink into. I’m captivated by this world of Mythics, danger and secrecy. Lost Talismans and a Tequila had all the elements that I look for in a gripping story. It has a great time-restrictive plot, with plenty of action, conflict and desperate, inner turmoil. However, there’s also enough humour to keep me engaged. Tori is a young woman (only 21) and a great character. She’s already exhibited many of the personality traits that I love; resilience, humour and self-reliance. Not being born into this dangerous world of Mythics, I love how Tori is seeking to fill all the gaps in her knowledge and skills. Fantastic! Tori’s gumption and desperation to save the ones she loves are continued to be put to the test in this story – I love her determination and wept at the seemingly hopeless situation. Cris Dukehart’s performance was fantastic while Teddy Hamilton is a new-to-me narrator. I really liked the pace at which Cris and Teddy both read their chapters and the emotion they conveyed in the narrative. Cris manages to create slightly different voices for the characters. This means that I never feel confused about who was speaking during the many conversations. Teddy’s chapters were focused on Ezra’s inner dialogue. His performance definitely seemed to capture Ezra’s inner battle, his slow slip into madness. It was a nice change to have a real male voice for these important scenes for Ezra. Annette doesn’t leave us with nasty cliffhangers. Woop! Tori has continued to grow and develop with each book. We’ve also learnt more about Aaron, Kai and Ezra as the series has progressed too. New characters are introduced as more about the Mythic world is revealed and secrets are uncovered. But, nothing is left hanging dangerously in a life-or-death cliffhanger. The threat and mystery in this story are dramatically dealt with before the end. However, I’m keen to find out how the events in this story will affect things. What will Tori and the guys get mixed up with next?! I’d recommend Lost Talismans and a Tequila to fans of action and adventure stories. Especially those who enjoy escapades within urban fantasy settings and don’t mind a bit of slow-burn romance thrown in.
