Summary
When the lights go out, how far will you go to survive?

When an EMP devastates the nation's power supply, it doesn't take long for society to spiral out of control. There is no government to guide people. There is no power and no order. Only chaos and panic.

In the immediate aftermath of the devastation, five survivors-a self-sufficient survivalist, a university student, a plane crash survivor, a young girl, and an escaped prisoner-all face a dangerous, treacherous journey towards safety.

But as the day goes on and tensions reach breaking point, our survivors soon realize this solar event is far more dangerous than they could ever have imagined . . .

Lights Out is the first book in the Surviving the EMP post apocalyptic series chronicling five very different survivors and the way they handle disaster. If you enjoy stories of ordinary people thrown into devastating new circumstances, you'll love Lights Out.

Author has a very limited vocabulary. You'll hear these phrases over and over again- "He swallowed a lump in his throat.." ... "He saw something that made his stomach drop" ... "She gritted her teeth" ... "Her eyes wide" ... Not a TERRIBLE book, but not great. Wouldn't recommend, to be honest.

Just a warning, this book is set in England not the US. it may be a good book if you live over there but it's very distracting here to have the book narrated by an American English speaker with all kinds of British English in the book. I couldn't find anything I could relate to so I quit listening after about an hour.

Painful listen! Someone takes a deep breath and swallows lumps and feels their stomach sink every few page. The author must think the reader/listener is an imbecile as he feels the need to repeat a statement twice, to make sure we get it. Example: The scream came from the forest, from the woods (paraphrasing.) The author also feels the need to remind us constantly of the characters' personal turmoil at every new chapter, a tedious repetition. The narrator speaks American English, not the Queen's for a story set in England. It's annoyingly distracting. He is also not the greatest readers, but not as annoying as the writer, I must say. I listened to whole thing because I wanted to find out how it ended, and what a let down! An inane denouement, where nothing comes together, other than they all get redeemed, or it seems to be the author's idea. A waste of time.

Book is pretty good. I wish it was narrated by a British person and not a Canadian.

I couldn’t get through it...the very American narrator talking about “crisps” and “queues” from a very British book, the inane characters, the repeated realizations of what an EMP meant. Definitely skip this one.
