I usually like David Baldacci but this was a terribly long story and had a very bad ending. Seem to go on forever! To do this again!
This is one very complex story! There are many characters and many locations to follow. The main character has a stellar reputation among his peers and is highly respected by the men in his group. For some unknowable reason, he fails to support his men on his current mission due to some weird physical problem and only recovers after his team is slaughtered. The road through this story is full of unexpected twists and turns to find who was responsible for the massacre of his team and why he was unable to perform in his usual heroic manner. This book is classic Baldacci in its description of how things move along to reach the solution to the case. There is a lot of introspection by the main character and it adds to the depth of the tale. All of the chief characters are drawn in great detail so that I almost felt as though I could see them in my mind’s eye. The locations that were key to the story are equally well described so that the reader (listener) could envision the action. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book with an ending that signaled, at least to me, a sequel could easily follow. I won’t hold my breath but I’d sure read it! I’ve read most of David Baldacci’s series books and love the way his endings could be the true end but there’s always enough yarn left to spin another adventure!
It was truly a pleasure to listen to the narrator, Jason Culp. He has a wide range of vocal intonations and inflections so that the listener can clearly tell who is speaking. The voice easily reflects the sense of the scene and gives the listener a true feeling that the action is taking place right before their “ears”. He gave a wonderful voice to an exciting book.
I have read a few David Baldacci books but this one was okay....better than Simple Genius which I stopped listening to since I couldn't get into it.
I am turning into a reasonably huge Baldacci fan but this one is a little much. The hypnosis took it over the edge for me, but it still wasn't horrible. As usual there were a TON of well developed characters, a good plot, and some unexpected twists and turns. This one just goes one step to far into "make believe" for me.
A decent enough book, rather formulaic. Many parts of the plot stretch credibility, but if you like the author you will like this. If you don't like testosterone driven tough guy books then you won't like this one.
I thought this book was awful! I listen to my books on my way to & from work. When I opened the car door after listing to this one, the smell of gunsmoke & testosterone was overwhelming. It had a childish plot & the main characters were ridiculous. It was like listening to a novel written by a mildly talented 14 year old. I will not listen to another Baldacci novel. Whew! Hard to believe he's a best seller!
Baldacci's thriller was a good listen. It was a bit dragging at times, but it turned out well. Web London was a complex character, a theme to Baldacci's leading men. Super!
This book moved too slowly. I don't recommend it!
Did enjoy this book. There were a couple of surprises but for the most part I was able to figure out what was going to happen next.
I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed his other book "Saving Faith" better but it had an interesting twist at the end. It was not necessarily predictable but an easy listen and enjoyable.
After the hot action in the first chapter, this book moves pretty slowly for a while. If you have the patience, it will pick back up again. But you do have to wade through some slow development before you get back to the action.
