Listen, Grisham's my favorite Author, I share his books with my family and friends. But the ending if "who done it" was a little disappointing. Michael Beck is the greatest narrator I've co e across and would love for him to do all of Grisham's books.Mr. Beck is very talented.

As a huge John Grisham fan, this book had a decent twist in the end, but the journey to get there was pretty bland. Not one of my favorites.

This was a surprising story not what I expected yet in fashion with the writer. I liked the characters and stories in it. The ending was very compelling.

I enjoyed this book... It kept me entertained and the narrarator was great to listen to... The ending was sad, but sweet...

I really enjoyed this book. I'm a fan of John Grisham, but this book kept my interest from beginning to end. The narrator read very well for the old south. Would recommend highly.

I own the abridged version of this story, but rented the unabridged version to see if I was missing anything. Absolutely not. The abridged version has a much better pace that keeps you riveted the whole way through. This version has a lot of back stories that are quite unnecessary. I would recommend the abridged version first, then this one. (Also, two different narrators...yes, the abridged narrator is better.)

Few things grate on my ears more than laboured, fake southern accents. The narrator here is flawless. Grisham's tale is funny and has good pacing. I love the Dickensian names of the some of his characters--they echo the names of people I grew up around in Florida. The plot is engaging, nothing new, just a solid good listen.

Always a good choice in authors. John Grisham can spin a court room tale like no other.

If you are a fan of Grisham then this book will be enjoyed. I enjoyed the perspective and the book. Some of the twists and turns seemed a little forced, but for the most part I found the story enjoyable.

I'd been meaning to check out Grisham for a long time and finally got around to it with this book. I am now a fan for life because this book was superb. It had the same comfortable feel of the town it depicted, Southern Comfort. I anticipated more drama, more action, but I soon realized that it was less a murder mystery than it was the story of a young man's journey into adulthood and his awakening into the realization that life is good, and can be hard. The characters are memorable, the writing exceptional, and the narration so well done that I felt he was talking to me directly in that easy southern drawl. I was often reminded of Matthew McConaughey's character in "A Time to Kill." Worth every star.

Great beach read. I feel in love with the main character, reminded me of my younger brother.

It had its highs and it slows it had humor it had suspense and had good character development and warmth, and I've found it one of the best audio books that I have ever encountered in my life.

A wonderful and refreshing narrative that works in many of the news events of the 1970's and the customs and prejudices of the South as Willie Traynor reports the news. As his life unfolds, he gets to know many colorful and unusual people and they consider him a liberal from the North. The book centers on his unusual relationship with a very special black family and the love and acceptance he finds there. Not a typical Grisham book, yet there are still lawyers, and murders and a trial that is the center of the book. It is more the story of the town and the people and his feeling towards life.

Starts slowly, but interest builds as the story unfolds. Typical of other Grisham novels and a bit predictable, it none-the-less is interesting and worthwhile.

I liked this story and really enjoyed when the "Trial" was the focus. At other times I found myself daydreaming. Maybe I was tired this week only I am more inclined to believe the story moved a bit slow during my daydreaming episodes.

This was a fantastic book. It was one of those books that even though I listened to the first half, and then had to wait a couple of weeks because the second half shipped after another selection I had in my shelf, I picked right up on the story line without forgetting anything. This was such a good read, and the narrator was very good.

Not Grishham at his best but a wise investment of my time to enjoy this book. The characters are wekk developed and the reader was easy to listen to and did not detract from the story. A little twist at the end is a pleasant surprise

I was suprisingly enchanted with this audio book and didn't want it to end.

Great book over-all. The second half got a little political, i.e. anti-war . I liked 'The Broker' better.

This book was a big surprise. I have had it on my shelf at home and now can't believe I waited to read it. Every element of this book was a winner for me, the story, the people and the way it drew me in. You will not be disappointed if you check this one out. Grisham is not a formula writer. This was a new compelling story base and I definately recommend it.

This was a simple story and pleasant to listen to, but definitely was not a "cliff-hanger". If you want to listen to a "PG" rated murder-mystery, then this is for you.

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book so much I think I will purchase the book!!! I had to listen to a couple of parts over again just to make sure I could figure out who the bad guy was. He kept me guessing until the end.

Superb! Grisham at his best. Great character developement and story line. I listened to the unabridged version, and glad that I did - for I wouldn't have wanted to miss a single word.

This was the second best John Grisham book I have read. I still think a Time to Kill was the best but this is right up there with it. The are so real and make you feel as if you’re there with them. Being front the south, so many truths hit home about traditions good and bad. Truly a thrilling book.

I have not always been a huge John Grisham fan, but I have to tell you this book had me on the edge of my seat through the whole ride. I loved it! It was neatly woven and played just enough of the judicial edge without beating it to death. I was very impressed and have decided to get more books by Grisham as a result. Well done!

Best audio book I've listened to this year - excellent story line and superbly narrated!

I chose this for the courtroom drama, but loved it even more for the picture of place, time and characters that it creates. If you are looking for a fast-paced thriller, this is not the book for you, but I was never bored. The writing is compelling and the characters a joy. I wished I lived in Clanton!!

I found the reader and story to be very entertaining. I would have never guessed the ending!

I enjoyed this book - although I didn't find this to be one of Grisham's best. It was still a good book that I did not want to stop listening to, just as I do all of his works.

The first half of this book (part one) was outstanding. The second half was fragmented and seemed auxillary to me. Overall I enjoyed the work, but the second half could have been trimmed down substantially.

John Grisham abridged is a perfect travel companion. I never found myself ahead of or behind in the story. It makes a frustrating long commute perfectly mindless and much shorter.

This was an interesting story which kept me captivated as I drove along the highway for several hours. The story line kind of fell apart toward the end. The reader had a great voice that he varied for the different characters. That was entertaining.

This story was terrific. Not really a typical Grisham, but very entertaining. The reader was outstanding, giving genuine personality to the various characters. I loved the way he used the southern accents. This is a wonderful tale of life in the rural south in the 60's and 70's with all the influences of those turbulent times. I laughed out loud sometimes and shed tears at others. Truely a brilliant work!

This was a great book. The narrator was incredible and there was something so charming about his voice...it made the story all the more believable. I do think the unabridged version might have done this book more justice, but it was still a great listen.

I really enjoyed this book. I grew up in this era but in California. It was very interesting to hear about small town Southern living in the 60's and 70's. Great listen.

I very much enjoyed not only the plot but the read. The story came from a very interesting perspective and was a wonderful glimpse into "small town America." Being a part of the maturing of an astute reporter and a newspaper was a relaxing and entertaining experience.

Another John Grisham hit. I didn't care for the audio dubbing that went on throughout the cd. Instead of replacing full sentences during edit they replaced just a few words at a time, to me it lost my concentration. Still worth the listen.

Disappointing ending. Was a great read from the beginning up til the middle of the book.

... but still great! Nice change from the usual attorney tales. I loved the stories of the town, the main characters, and the local countryside. The narrator is wonderful, the pacing is terrific, and I even had tears in my eyes at the end. You can't go wrong with this one!

A good Grisham book. Different perspective of the legal system from a newspaper editor rather than your typical Southern lawyer.

This book was ok, not one of john grishams better books.
