Summary
Most of the world remembers Crazy Horse as a peerless warrior who brought the U.S. Army to its knees at the Battle of Little Bighorn. But to his fellow Lakota Indians, he was a dutiful son and humble fighting man who-with valor, spirit, respect, and unparalleled leadership-fought for his people's land, livelihood, and honor. In this fascinating biography, Joseph M. Marshall, himself a Lakota Indian, creates a vibrant portrait of the man, his times, and his legacy.

Thanks to firsthand research and his culture's rich oral tradition (rarely shared outside the Native American community), Marshall reveals many aspects of Crazy Horse's life, including details of the powerful vision that convinced him of his duty to help preserve the Lakota homeland-a vision that changed the course of Crazy Horse's life and spurred him confidently into battle time and time again.

The Journey of Crazy Horse is the true story of how one man's fight for his people's survival roused his true genius as a strategist, commander, and trusted leader. And it is an unforgettable portrayal of a revered human being and a profound celebration of a culture, a community, and an enduring way of life.

This biography of Crazy Horse made me stop and think about how wrong our education system is. The real information about the life of the Native Americans and how badly our country treated them is obscured. It's a national disgrace that no one really talks about.

"There are Always two sides to one story." If only every American had the courage and desire to learn about the other side of our nations history rather than the propaganda fed to them through the decades old education system that never questioned the Truth of what they were teaching the children of this nation. Right now our nation needs to know, understand and take responsibility for how this nation was founded and the First People's plight at the hands of Euro-Americans. Beautifully written, researched and spoken about the honorable and respected Crazy Horse.

Excellent book. It is deeply researched, well written and brought to life characters more mythological than understood. I enjoyed the reflections that provided important insight into the culture and life philosophy of the Lakota. A rewarding read, enjoyable and enlightening.

The heart knows what is true. As I was finishing the book, I saw a documentary about an archiological team that surveyed the Little Bighorn sight for evidence. Then, I watched a Amazon movie entitled "Woman Walks Alone". I admit, white settlers and the new governemnt really screwed us for generations to come. Hoping we can one day find the balance again as was intended by our common creator. Excellent read and ditto the narrator.

I've always wanted to read the story of the Lakota tribe. I'm glad I'd waited until now. This book, and it's reading, were superbly done. You could feel the story as it was read. A "must listen" for anyone interested in native American history. Thank you.

The author was a native american who researh brought the rich oral history to lite.

Without a doubt, this is a must read for all Americans who have been fed the nonsense about the "savages" who inhabited North America. This is one of the most insightful, interesting account of the Indian culture and ways of living. This should be required reading in every history class.

A wonderful story of leadership and human nature. Crazy Horse is the kind of man I would've liked to have known. And the narrator did an exceptional job of bringing the emotions and reality of that time in History, so vivid.

This book gave great insight into the values of the Lakota way of life and philosophy, something that most of us have no knowledge of. It is important that we learn about the wisdom of the native cultures of North America and how they have been obliterated and destroyed.

Great book that I enjoyed very much and the author did a good job narrating the story. The biography of Crazy horse from this personal point of view further emphasizes what a great leader he was. Joseph Marshall, thanks for capturing and sharing these stories.

Very compelling account of the life of Crazy Horse. I wish there had been more about the women in his story. And could have done without some pretty trite “reflections” on leadership. But overall a very well told story.

I enjoyed this book as it provided the culture of the Lakotas and the personality and story of Crazy Horse. The narrator is excellent as his voice helped me visualize Crazy Horse, his tribe and family, and their points of view towards white men and other tribes. These stories need to be told and learned so we can understand what happened and treat people more humanely and fair.

Beautifully written by a Lakotan, with insight and deep understanding of Lakota culture that made the story impossible to put down. The calm narration of the author, with an ever so slight native accent had me wishing it would never end. Luckily, there was a bonus story!

There seemed to be a lot of repletion of stories and facts that was hard to keep up with. I thought that I had accidentally gone backward several times. Author narrated and was not as polished as professional narrators,

Such grace and humility in the telling of this story by the author. Take time to explore the provenance of his background, to see how well qualified he is.... Follow the money (as ever), it was about the yellow stuff and land grabbing So what has changed ? I feel that 1st nation peoples ought to have at least 3 seats at the UN What a wonderful time listening Thank you

I was traveling to SD Black Hills region when I started listening. This is so in-depth and spot on, educated me on the true history of tribal Indians, shame on white man greed. I will be listening to more educational books on this subject. Could not have listened to it at a better time as I tour the areas, Crazy Horse Memorial and the tribal lands.

I have recommended this book to my children and many of my friends. I am older now and listen to lots of lots of books and history is. I was so impressed to hear a native speaker that rate this book. I recommend it to anyone who wants the real truth about what happened between the Native Americans in the United States government. A wonderful wonderful history
