Summary
Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers-the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one man makes certain to uphold this ancient law: Jacob, the Enforcer.

For 700 years, he has resisted temptation. But not tonight...

Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total...until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire. Bring on the night.

I read the series in print when they first came out and I was happy with it back then. Now, not so much. What ultimately killed it for me was the narration. Truly terrible. She gave all the men serious Count Dracula vibes and Isabella a childlike tone, especially in parts where she's laughing. Like a teenager's idea of what sexy sounds like. On the writers side, she started Isabella off with bravery and a bit of a smart mouth then it morphed into more of a snotty teenager with a kids idealistic outlook. Naive to the extreme coupled with the narrator's child-like sound made you think you were reading some 12 year old's diary. Cringe. I didn't have many issues with the men once I forced myself to get over the Dracula sound

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read this book. It was recommended by a friend so I gave it a try, but normally I probably wouldn’t have chosen it from the description. It was fantastic though. I really love when an author comes up with a really creative new paranormal world I haven’t seen before. I love the way Jaqueline Frank changed how we perceive demons. They aren’t evil at all. In fact, they are good, except when they are summoned by a magic using human who makes them do evil things. It was funny to see the demons fear humans. I enjoyed that part a lot. What I didn’t like is how easy things were. Bella and Jacob were way too understanding and their feelings and experiences were always so easily resolved. There were some conflicts in the plot, but even those were overcome easily and predictably. Still, it was an enjoyable read and I’ll continue with the series.
