Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER •  In this hilarious instant classic, the creator of The Mindy Project and Never Have I Ever invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood.

“[Kaling is] like Tina Fey’s cool little sister. Or perhaps . . . the next Nora Ephron.”—The New York Times

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!

With several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? proves that Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.

Praise for Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

“Where have you been all our lives, Mindy?”—Glamour

“Who wouldn’t want to hang out with Mindy Kaling? . . . [Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?] is like a mash note to comedy nerds.”—Time Out New York

“Very funny.”—Boston Globe

My expectations for this book were very high. So, even though I enjoyed it a lot, it didn't quite live up to what I was expecting.

I loved this book. I think Mindy is a genius. No, not just because of this book!... Her work on a whole is amazing. She nails it everytime; without beating you over the head with it. If you get her fine. If not; next! However, I must disagree with her. As much as I love Tina Fey; Mindy's comedy style surpasses hers. Mindy doesn't feel the need to help you get the joke. She's more organic. Thanks Mindy. :-) Dianna Scott~

Nice book and excellent narration, but since I'm not a huge fan, the whole biografy wasn't that interesting.

This book is easy to listen to, in a way where you have an interesting friend and you are catching up on life...except, your friend likes to talk and you like to listen. I enjoyed listening to this book on my way in to work, or while going on my 5-mile runs. Her narrating is truly captivating and her antidotes are awe inspiring and remarkable. After listening to this book I checked out her 2nd book and started listening to Amy Poehler YES PLEASE. I respect and enjoy that Ms Kaling and Ms Poehler are narrating.

I love Mindy but was expecting a little bit more. Some tangents lost me but overall I would recommend. It's such a quick, relatable and easy listen.

I've always liked Mindy Kaling from her TV projects but after this book, I love her. She is very funny and self-depricating and the book made my long commute to work fly by. I would definitely recommend this audio book to anyone with a pulse and two ears.

I enjoyed the book but not quite as much as I thought I would. I had extremely high hopes for the book. I loved Mindy on The Office and love her now on The Mindy Project. She really is hysterical! I guess I love watching her act more than listening to her read. That said, it's still entertaining.

I haven't seen much of The Office, so I mostly know Mindy from her show "The Mindy Project". This audiobook has that signature girly, unapologetic, scathingly funny humor that I love from her. It's a short, bite-sized book (at least, in comparison to what I usually listen to) so while it doesn't have a ton of depth, it was a really nice bright read between serious-business books. She also makes some nice little accommodations for the audiobook version, like saying "If you've listened to more than 5 minutes of this book..." instead of "If you've read more than 5 pages of this book..." which was a nice touch that I haven't often seen.
