Summary
The book is about three families in England at the beginning of the twentieth century. The three families represent different gradations of the Edwardian middle class: the Wilcoxes, who are rich capitalists with a fortune made in the Colonies; the half-German Schlegel siblings (Margaret, Tibby, and Helen), who represent the intellectual bourgeoisie and have a lot in common with the real-life Bloomsbury Group; and the Basts, a couple who are struggling members of the lower-middle class. The Schlegel sisters try to help the poor Basts and try to make the Wilcoxes less prejudiced. The motto of the book is "Only connect..."

Ms. Klett read the book very well and was easy to listen to. Hope I run inti other books she narrates. The book itself was very hard to keep up with who is who and how do they fit into the story. If this wasn’t bad enough the narrater had to break in at the end of each chapter snd announce the number of the next chapter with a Libravox commercial. She also had to tell us the author was E. M. Foster and her name and that it was a Libravox recording and that it was in the public domain. Just about to get the role of the character or. characters when the chapter was over. Very hard to keep up with the plot of this book. But then I guess I shouldn’t complain it was free. Guess you really do get what you pay for. .

A wonderfully erudite and insightful exploration of the mores of British society at the turn of the last century. With his characteristic use of irony, E M Forster probes what happens when well-intentioned social engineering goes awry. Elizabeth Klett's narration was particularly good. Although there are many interrelated characters to keep straight, her accomplished use of different voices, tones and accents individualized each of them. A masterful performance!

The narrator was excellent! Even more impressive after finding out this was a libravox recording, they’re usually not the best. Loved the book, I’ve seen the film loads of times and was surprised that the relationship between Margaret and Mrs. Wilcox wasn’t as warm in the book as it was in the film. But books always have much more detail than the film don’t they? Great listen!!!

What an amazing book - I remember the film - but there is so much more depth to the story - I want to re-read or re-listen again and again. Excellent presentation by Elizabeth Klett.

Ran Mattison... excellent narration. Not really my type of story, but still it was very well written. A little slow in the beginning but still interesting.
