Summary
Hear Heidi if you've ever longed to see the Swiss mountain slopes. This story transports the listener from the fine air and freedom of the mountaintop to the confines of Frankfurt, back to the peaks again, bounding in flowered fields with goats at your heels and sky utterly surrounding you. We meet Heidi when she is 5, led up the mountain by her aunt who has raised the orphan but must leave now for a position in Frankfurt. In a mountain cottage overlooking the valley is Heidi's grandfather, and there with him the girl's sweet, free nature expands with the vista. The author's voice is straightforward, and so is our reader's, with the child's wonder, devotion, and sometimes humorous good intentions. When Heidi is taken from the mountains and nearly doesn't make it back again, the most humorous as well as most heart-wringing scenes occur. All she learns during her absence from the mountain she brings back as seeds that will grow to benefit everyone around her. (Summary by Anita)

I so enjoy this narrator, I've listened to many of 'kay rays' readings and they're very enjoyable, wonderful expression, with a soothing, clear voice and good pace. Heidi has been a great listen, I was transported to the beautiful Alps along with her, feeling the freedom of the life she lives- an amazing escape from being bedbound with severe ME. Thanks Kay ray x

Believe it or not, I never read the story when young and made it until the age of (mumble) before actually listening to it. I've been a bit spoiled by audio books that are not Libravox, and have been disappointed by some of their other narrators, so I was prepared to just tolerate the reader for the sake of the story. I was surprised by the narration quality! If you are hesitating to listen because Libravox volunteers do not always sound professional, start here - you will not be disappointed.

I really loved this story of Heidi. Such a wonderful, wholesome book. A great one that I hope to listen to with the Grandkids. It was like a much needed burst of fresh air!

Needed a story to take me to happier times and places that were not so complicated. This story and the narrator took me there. I was very pleased with my first listen to Audiobooks. I shall look forward to traveling to different places and participating in adventures listening to future choices.
