The Grapes Of Wrath

So grateful for the audiobook of the Grapes of Wrath. Really enjoyed the reader. Excellent book. I do have to agree with other reviewers about the harmonica between chapters. Jarring.

Great story and narration, but the loud harmonica music between chapters was really jarring.

This book is truly devastating, but beautiful. although it was difficult for me to get into it initially I'm really glad I kept going. The feeling of this book stays with you. narration is good generally but some of the characters felt a bit too cartoonish in their portrayal

The Narrator deserves 15 or 20 stars. The story invoked some hard memories for me. My family was very poor in my early years so I can relate to many of the struggles the Joad family faced. We weren't homeless but had to deal with landlords, lack of adequate clothing and toilet facilities, we ate what we had. This story tells of a tragedy that struck America and we are still dealing with many issues of acceptance and circumstances and prejudices that many people still face today.

Steinbeck was phenomenal in this one. I enjoyed the way the book went back and forth describing the general situation and then told the story of the Jode family. Steinbeck captured the strength and fortitude of a by-gone age of Americans.

This is a classic that I've wanted to read for a long time. The narrator was excellent, and the story both heartbreaking and engaging. My Great Grandparents were "Okies," and hearing what they must have endured made me all the more grateful for their sacrifice for our family.

Narrator - outstanding. The story - equally outstanding. Though things HAVE changed for the better over the years, a classic like this provides the reader a perspective and appreciation for what most of us have and enjoy today, at least in comparison to the U.S. citizens in this story who bravely headed west for a better life. The book and the narrator - highly recommended!

Very interesting compelling story of the struggles of a family collectively and individually facing enormous adversity. I feel Stein beck had a little trouble finding a suitable ending.

A brilliant book, brilliantly read. This is a must read/ listen. Topical. Much better than the movie version!

It's a shame, with such a great book and a great narrator that someone would decide to interrupt the chapters with the most god-awful music, delivered at twice the decibels of the narration! Beware, especially if you're trying to read the book for relaxation. In between chapters there are sudden, ear-splitting blasts of harmonica that sound like a cross between a car alarm and a cat being slowly crushed by a steam roller.

One of the best books ever written - My favorite author. Narrator and production on this is top notch. I have listened to this novel 5 time....

The nation could do with a solid reading of this classic. It's pretty eye opening how little has changed over the years. I guess what they say is true - the more things change, the more they stay the same. I was drawn into the story line from the first part of the first chapter. I had looked it up on YouTube to try and find it since I knew it was a classic. I couldn't find a solid version of it being read so I decided to go ahead and purchase. I was immediately enthralled. Every chance I had, I was pulling up the app on my phone so I could get further through the book. Highly suggested listening for anyone.
