Summary
The stunning new novel from the international #1 bestselling author—a searing, spellbinding blend of cold-case thriller and psychological suspense.

Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind …

Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn’s happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father—Pikeville’s notorious defense attorney—devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night.

Twenty-eight years later, Charlie has followed in her father’s footsteps to become a lawyer herself—the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again—and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized—Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it’s a case that unleashes the terrible memories she’s spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won’t stay buried forever …

Packed with twists and turns, brimming with emotion and heart, The Good Daughter is fiction at its most thrilling.

For me this was a true five star. It keeps a wonderful pace with plenty of twists and turns. The writers ability to tell tale of strength and survival was brilliantly done. You will not want to set it down.

I enjoyed this book very much. Exactly what I was looking for in a book. I highly recommended to anyone

This was my first Karin Slaughter book! I have found a new binge favorite! I was so happy that I couldn’t predict the ending and was on the edge of my seat the entire time!!

Profile Avatar Patricia B. Aug 2020

A good book. Keeps you guessing up to the end!!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2020

I usually like Karen Slaughter novels, however, this one ... eh? It started off with one crime scene and then evolved into another unrelated crime. I did not care for the characters and their relationships with each other. It was a book with too many side stories that didn’t come together very well in the end.

Profile Avatar Meee-gan Jan 2020

This was my first Karin Slaughter novel... Great job! I was interested and engaged the whole way through! I am already listening to my next book by Ms. Slaughter. The narrator is one of the best I've heard so far!

Profile Avatar Corinne R. Dec 2019

I loved this book! I couldn’t turn it off. First time reading a law thriller. And I’m hooked. I definitely recommend!

Profile Avatar Vicky W. Dec 2019

The f word used way too much. Did not like the characters, and no mystery. A mean book.

Profile Avatar Candy M. Nov 2018

The narrator was phenomenal, the book pretty meh I really struggled to finish this, even while painting and doing everything to get my house on the market followed by a fifteen hour move. Pretty predictable, the only likable character playing a minuscule enough role that he only popping up enough to remind you that he was a good guy.

Profile Avatar Joanne R Mar 2018

Went into way to much detail. Would have been a great book if the story was cut in half by omitting all the detail!

Profile Avatar Elizabeth S Oct 2017

I loved the dynamics between the 2 points of view shared by sister protagonists-- great vantage point. For me, this book was 75% awesome, but unfortunately there were points where the storyline look overly dramatic dips... I felt like if the author was told to keep the content but shorten the length, it could have been great. Still an engaging and entertaining read/listen with great narration!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2022

Hats off to Karin Slaughter this one kept me wanting more and more. Was sad to see (hear) it end.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2022

The story line kept me very Intrigued. Loved the personality of each character. I really enjoyed this book.

Profile Avatar Carole S. Aug 2022

This was my 2nd book by Karin Slaughter and I was not disappointed. she does tend to be a bit too descriptive but I'm getting used to it! I felt an attachment to the characters and even cried a couple times, that's something that doesn't happen often for me. I enjoyed the mystery part and hated to see it end! it's also the 2nd book with this narrator, love her too!

Profile Avatar Katie S. Aug 2022

Great book. I didn’t want it to end.

Profile Avatar Denise T. Aug 2022

Profile Avatar Dena Knight Jul 2022

This is a great book and a fabulous narrator.

Profile Avatar t_est Aug 2021

WOW! I am blown away by the narrator’s beautiful voice, she really brought the characters to life. And they were written so well, each one so complex. I love the way the book went between the past and the present. I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. Absolutely loved this one and will search for more from this author.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2018

This was book was great! The narrator did an amazing job!

Profile Avatar Stephanie B. Sep 2024

a bit long but it was good!

Profile Avatar Molly G. Jul 2024

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. There were parts in the book I thought I had hit the back button. Too many repeats (in length) about the past. It was confusing the first tims, frustrating the second. But overall a good book.

Profile Avatar Breanna L. Apr 2024

I’m not sure I was prepared For this book. However, it was well written and throughly enjoyed. I really like the narration.

Profile Avatar Carol Apr 2024

Excellent from start to finish. I don’t get the low reviews by some. You won’t be disappointed. It moves quickly and the characters are well done.

Profile Avatar jeverright Mar 2024

I listen to virtually every genre available, and this, by far is the best audiobook I found available in this platform. The narration was amazing, and the story kept you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire listen. I’ve already recommended this book to virtually everyone, I see!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2024

Profile Avatar Tina G. Jun 2023

Loved the book. I like Karin Slaughter's writing style and Kathleen Early did great with reading it.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jun 2023

This book should come with a trigger warning. School shooting, small child dying, infertility… just so much sadness with characters that weren’t incredibly likable. I would not have purchased this knowing how heavy it is and I do love crime books. The only saving grace is that it’s unpredictable

Profile Avatar Kimberly M. May 2023

Loved this book! Definitely worth the read. Will be reading others by this author.

Profile Avatar Jeffrey M. Apr 2023

I must have been in the mood. But the book hit the spot! 17 hrs of excitement.

Profile Avatar Lois B. Feb 2023

This book was so good. Karen Slaughter is a great writer and Kathleen Early brings it to life

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2023

I love everything about this book

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2023

I found this book very disturbing and wonder if the author came up with such detailed and twisted-unending amounts of violence because the author lived this kind of life? Or perhaps grew up in the midst of a mafia town or Epstein island? The of twists and turns which were intriguing but too unbelievable. There really were no decent people. While perhaps the book tries to make the reader see the good and bad in everyone, all it really did was make this reader feel like this was trying to be written from someone on the spectrum with no real empathy or “theory of the mind” . If the author is going to describe mom’s “heart and brain tissue” all over a house and a horrendous attack but then skirt over the damaging and life long effect that would have on the psyche or the craziness of staying on the same town. Just unbelievable..unless maybe people live like this somewhere and if they do, plug me back into the matrix!!!

Profile Avatar Kristen L. Oct 2022

I enjoyed the story. I liked the backing up and filling in of details from each character's point of view. The narration was also easy to hear. Overall good book though I sometimes felt that she could have found more ways to tie together all the characters rather than just these separate totally violent things that just happen to happen to the same people so many years later. Other than the unlikely coincidence, though, I really liked it.

Profile Avatar Cher B. Oct 2022

Great book which took up two whole days of travel. Perfect!

Profile Avatar Jamie Oct 2022

This book pulled me in right away. I couldn’t stop listening! I recommend it!!

Profile Avatar The Month Oct 2022

Profile Avatar Jhooker Sep 2022

I have listened to several of this authors books... I really like her books but this one just did not do it for me, was better towards the end but she does have better reads!

Profile Avatar Shirley B. Jul 2022

Excellent!

Profile Avatar Heather M. May 2022

great book!

Profile Avatar Cat T. Mar 2022

great book. a little repetitive at times but it was for effect.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2022

I thought this book would NEVER end! Way too many details! And the two main characters are extremely unlikeable. If the constant arguing between the two of them had been cut back, the book might have been fair. I definitely won’t listen to #2 in the series!

Profile Avatar Brittany B. Mar 2022

I really enjoyed this audiobook.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2021

Interesting read with the main characters being relatable and imperfect. I enjoyed the legal setting and how it deeply impacted the daughters.

Profile Avatar Kim B. Mar 2021

I enjoyed the story, but the constant repetition of certain events became boring. The story was good but could have been great with some judicious editing. Also agree with another reviewer that the location was a cliche of a small southern town that seemed to be populated with only assholes...a more realistic balance of good beside the evil would have made the novel more believable.

Profile Avatar Kimberly P. Feb 2021

I enjoyed this book. Great character development. Moved along quite nicely. Suspenseful lots of twists and turns

Profile Avatar Barbara W. Nov 2020

One of my new favorite authors!!

Profile Avatar Cruella Oct 2020

Profile Avatar LisaAT Aug 2020

This is a great book- I bout died laughing atleast 3 times!! It totally describes a Georgian Dysfunctional family!!! I know- I’m from Georgia!! Not only was it hilarious, it was interesting and well-written!! Also the narrator was excellent!! I loved the Rusty character!! I’m gonna be looking for a sequel!!! I miss it already!!!

Profile Avatar justtrish Aug 2020

Enjoyed very much

Profile Avatar Susan Rollenhagen Feb 2020

My biggest complaint about this book is that sometime the author went into too much detail or repeated events too many times. One of the main events was re-told three different times and it was difficult to listen to the first time, let alone the second and third. I understand she was telling it from different points of views but I didn't need to hear the gruesome details over and over and over. I got it the first time. Other than that, pretty good story and characters.

Profile Avatar Brenda S. Feb 2020

I really enjoyed this book .. of course I always enjoy Karin Slaughter. Narrator was good also and kept the story moving along .

This is more than just a crime fiction thriller. It's also a character driven plot. The characters are memorable and elicit empathy. The writing is fantastic. The author really knows how to make you feel what the characters are feeling. I really enjoyed it.

Profile Avatar t foster Dec 2017

it's I very good mystery book

Profile Avatar C Howard Dec 2017

Certainly kept me entertained but the characters are not very likeable

Profile Avatar R Kale Dec 2017

Narrator and Book kept me interested from beginning to end. I didn't agree with the sentence Kelly got.

Profile Avatar Marian k Dec 2017

Narrator was very good but the storyline was weak and predictable

Profile Avatar Yvonne M Nov 2017

Really enjoyed this book. I? found it hard to quit listening.

Profile Avatar lacy w Nov 2017

I? love suspense, psychological thrillers, and this was certainly a great choice. You start out with the characters as children then move forward about 30 years, and go from there. It was incredibly intriguing and I? loved every second of this book. It gave me JUST enough info to keep me wanting more. I? absolutely loved it! Karin Slaughter might just tie with Gillian Flynn and Jodi Picoult in my mind!

Profile Avatar Dana D Oct 2017

Great book and the narration was fantastic. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes murder/suspense/thriller books.

Profile Avatar Nicole S Oct 2017

Great novel for anyone who likes suspense, mysteries, and great characters. Narration was superb. I thought the twist(s) was a bit weak but still totally compelling & engrossing -- didn't want to stop listening.

Profile Avatar Susan G Sep 2017

Great book. Gripped me from the beginning. Never wanted to stop listening. Narrative or did a good job. I never guessed the truth or ending.

Profile Avatar Kim D Sep 2017

There is nothing better than a Karin slaughter novel. This story brought out many emotions for me as do most of her books. I didn't want the story to end however it was good. I would love to see these characters in a series they were that interesting. Five stars all the way as always with her novels and I absolutely love this narrator I wonder if they give awards for narration.?, Because she would get one.

Profile Avatar Donna M Sep 2017

I really enjoyed this book. Was a bit overwhelmed at 17 hours but truly shocked how fast it went. Lots of storylines that all come together. I was pleasantly surprised

Profile Avatar Meaghan C Sep 2017

Profile Avatar camille p Aug 2017

I loved this book, everything about it there was never a dull moment.

Profile Avatar jenna s Aug 2017

Well written. Witty and clever. Would have given 5 stars except a few times the book seemed to go on long tangents, mostly in the dialogue between the sisters.

Profile Avatar Sonya O Aug 2017

I really enjoyed this book - this was the first book by Kaarin Slaughter I had listened to and I do intend on picking another one! The narrator was great wonder and easy to listen to.
