Summary
In this extraordinary fantasy epic, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Dresden Files leads readers into a world where the fate of the realm rests on the shoulders of a boy with no power to call his own...

For a thousand years, the people of Alera have united against the aggressive and threatening races that inhabit the world, using their unique bond with the furies—elementals of earth, air, fire, water, wood, and metal. But in the remote Calderon Valley, the boy Tavi struggles with his lack of furycrafting. At fifteen, he has no wind fury to help him fly, no fire fury to light his lamps. Yet as the Alerans’ most savage enemy—the Marat horde—return to the Valley, Tavi’s courage and resourcefulness will be a power greater than any fury, one that could turn the tides of war...

Great Narration!! I have read this series three times and listening to it actually made me like it even more surprisingly! The Narrator did an excellent job of making me feel like I was in the story and the inflection of the characters voices was perfect!!

Be careful. This may cause a need to listen to the rest of the series immediately after finishing this book.

Slow to begin but, there is a lot to cover and is worth the listen

I would listen to Kate Reading narrate a phone book. she's amazing she can turn an ok book into a great visual story. fortunately for her, this book is already intriguing. I wouldn't put it up there with a WHEEL OF TIME book, but it's good. so much so that I began the next one immediately! good enough story with a bit of mystery. if this is your thing, you'll enjoy it.

My top 5 book series! The narrator only gets better book by book! Own the paper and now want the audiobooks! One of the other series I love is by this author!

I enjoyed the book greatly. I have not read anything related to the Furies and would've enjoyed a brief explanation of the bases of them but have no complaints. Truly looking forward to next the next book

Love Jim Butcher and Kate Reading does the book justice. At some point, I forgot it was one reader and just recognized the character's voices.

i am reviewing after having finished the whole series. this first book seems a little slow to get going, as it seems to skip between several characters and settings, but like a glorious tapestry these individual threads come together to weave a world that my imagination completely immersed itself in by books end. i love kate reading's interpretations of the characters and how each one has a distinct voice, so much that even if there's no written indication i could discern who was speaking through the narrators interpretation.
