Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ∙ A shimmering, joyful novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2024

Named a Must-Read Book of 2024 by TIME ∙ NPR ∙ ELLE ∙ Parade ∙ Woman’s World and more!

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads—Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex . . . right?

The story line was thoughtful and interesting. The author does such a good job bringing nuance to characters! The narrator was nice to listen to and made the characters come to life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The characters breathe life into this storyline in a way that you almost forget you’re not part of it. While it is a longer listen, it’s essential not to glaze over any of the essential details.

Such a fun surprise. Emily Henry has a unique voice, humorous and real. I’ve just purchased another book for a gift. I’m older, one might say, so if you are a baby boomer don’t hesitate to read this boos. I laughed out loud frequently,?and fully appreciated her ability to write true characters with real emotions and reactions. The narrator, too, was absolutely excellent, adding to my enjoyment of this book I’ll be reading more of hers!

I couldn’t even finish it. One of the most boring books I’ve ever listened to, and the narrator’s voice was also boring. This might be okay if you’re age 16-23, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else.

My favorite Emily Henry book so far. Anyone who has been to the U.P. in MI will be able to clearly identify the scenery as described, it took me back to happy vacation memories. Really enjoyed the characters in this book.

Way too long! If you have nothing better to do then sure give it a listen but it was just way too long and just meh! I did a lot of eye rolling waiting for it to be over.

So predictable and boring. I know I’m in the minority but I just don’t like her books. This one was slightly better than Book Lovers. It might make a better Sunday afternoon movie.
