Summary
From a New York Times bestselling author, a Texas Ranger with a checkered past must choose between vengeance and family.

Crawford Hunt lost custody of his daughter after his wife died four years ago, following a downward spiral. Now that he's cleaned up his act, he wants her back. His family's fate lies in the hands of Judge Holly Spencer. Holly must prove herself worthy of a permanent judgeship on the cusp of an upcoming election. Every decision is high-stakes, and Holly is wary of Crawford's past–until he saves her from a masked gunman.

With the gunman still at large, Crawford uncovers a horrifying truth, leading him to seek vengeance and compromise his chance of regaining custody of his daughter. Now, Holly needs protection not only from an assassin, but from Crawford himself as a forbidden attraction grows between them.

Friction keeps you on the edge of your seat–it's a novel about the powerful ties that bind us to those we love and the secrets we keep to protect them.

The book was good. Not as eventful as some of her books but a good story. Narration was decent. Sometimes hard to tell the difference in character intrerpretation.

Classic Sandra Brown. A plot full of twists and turns, surprises around every corner. Awsome!

I love Sandra Brown however this book was slow, I found myself skipping parts as it seemed to me the same conversation happened over and over. The narration however had a super sexy voice that had me hooked on the sexy cop character.

I would call this less of a mystery or even a thriller, but rather an overly sexualized procedural cop drama. Brown does a decent job at describing scenes and characters, but falls short with the plot, which she sometimes shoves down your throat rather heavy handedly. To be more open about it being overly sexualized, she gets rather graphic about the relationship between protagonist (Crawford Hunt) and deuteragonist (Holly Spencer). Crawford is rather stereotypical, he's a no-nonsense, gritty Texan, and Holly doesn't quite fit the bill for someone that is filling the role of a judge. Their relationship feels shallow at some points, with little purpose asides from the glaring sexual tension that exists between them. Lang's narration is spot on, he's got a great voice, and it works well with the type of story. However, to say this book is outstanding is an overstatement. There's plot holes, and Brown's attempts at building any background tend to fall short. It's a poor man's Cormac McCarthy that focuses a little too much on sex and should be focusing more on story.
