Summary
New York Times bestselling author Mary Monroe weaves a stunning portrait of a family immersed in deceit—and the women whose happiness depends on the secrets they keep …

After growing up poor in Texas, Vera Lomax used every gold-digging trick in the book to land a rich husband. Now living in luxury in San Francisco, her only job is to fawn over her much-older husband. So when her husband’s mistress gets pregnant, Vera figures that a little hush money will ensure her husband’s fortune is hers alone …

Unfortunately for Vera, Sarah Cooper is the child Kenneth Lomax always wanted. When the father she never knew shows up at her mother’s funeral to claim her, it’s a fairy tale journey from the ghetto to a mansion on a hill. But Sarah knows that her stepmother is as two-faced as they come. And after losing all the family she’s ever known, she wants a life that’s richer than Vera has planned for her. As Vera and Sarah scheme to get what they want, everyone will be choosing sides, taking chances, and gambling it all to come out on top …

“Family of Lies is gritty and raw, trademarks of Monroe’s novels. A riveting story … Monroe’s latest is another page-turner.”—RT Book Reviews

Well well, Mary has done it again. The characters, the tone, the setting, she nailed it. Mary just needs to work on the verbiage, because no one talks like this anymore, then again who knows. Vera, messy old Vera got what she deserved. Being money hungry gets you nowhere, and she ends up just as she was in the beginning, alone and poor. I'm glad Sarah found love and got away from that house of gold diggers. I just hope her new love doesn't use her for her money. The lengths people go to for money is crazy, but not surprising at all. #Book28of2021 #bookworm #whatsnext

This book was very crass, but I enjoyed the storyline. As the saying goes, "Once a cheater, always a cheater."

Lame. Portrayed people of color in an insulting and stereotypical way.

Way too long and predictable. This could have easily been a 4 hr book

I was terribly disappointed in this point. Literally, it is the a book about a gold digging woman who cared about nothing but money. The plot was very boring.

The book has so many horrendous characters it was hard to listen to sometimes. The plot was a bit ridiculous and there were many indiscrepancies in the story. It was kinda fun to listen to, though, because the narrators were good. But when even the heroine is a cheater-oh well.

I would love to see this as a movie, maybe on UMC or Lifetime. It started a bit slow, but I stuck with it & it got good, really good ❤. I did like Sarah's narration & Vera's. Kenneth's was a bit weird. LOL.
