Unabridged Audiobook
A well written, thought provoking, historical novel wonderfully intertwining two lives 100 years apart over historic tragedies suffered in New York (Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and 911 Twin Towers). The author does well bringing the reader alongside the struggles and triumphs with clarity and humanity. [Audiobook listener note, while this relatable, well narrated story is an easy listen when performing simple labor tasks (like laundry, dishes), it is not easy to follow the story line when others/task draws one\'s mental attention as well.]
This story opened my understanding of nurses caring for new arrivals to America on Ellis Island. Broken dreams and renewed hope weave their way through the pages of this wonderful story.
Such a great story and well read by the narrator! The heart wrenching plots in each story was spot on. And a solid conclusion to both stories. I really appreciated the development of both lead characters, and I didn’t get annoyed with them as they were debating decisions. This will be a repeat listen!
This is one of those books I want to listen to again. Very well done.
What a story .rather amazng two stories! like the fabric w marigold s..thw two.storirs were "woven together with care and grace...loved reading this book particularly.in the Autumm season..the Marigold fabric and image it portrayed and represented for.me...it stood out..stood strong and bold at times...yet was a soft "glow" in other moments..certainly the contrasting but complimentary colors..the hues of gold.amber.orange..wheat color of the background.olive green leaves perhaps... loved learning more about what the immigrants..their struggles..uncertainty in coming to a foreign land...the histories in both centuries and what those living experienced and those who cared for them
Susan Meissner is an amazing author. The reader is equally wonderful. My life is enriched after experiencing a book of Susan's pen.
Worth the read.
I loved the storyline set a century apart! Lots of interesting aspects about Ellis Island and the experiences of immigrants as well as medical staff. A great read!
A dear story of the "threads" connect people through days, years
Enjoyed the story very much, and the narrator did an excellent job using different voices for the characters.
