Unabridged Audiobook
The narrator is terrible. She had a very thick accent which alone wouldn’t be bad, but it seems like shes confused about the English she’s reading: She adds random inflections that don’t seem to be relevant and is halting in a way jolts me out of the story. Also the book itself seems to be poorly written.
The narrator did a good job. I read The Winter Palace first and really liked it. This one...not so much. I had a tough time following it as there are a lot of characters and you don't get to know them well before the book moves on. I agree with the other reviewer that you don't really sympathize with the main character much, which is the opposite of the way it was in the first book. I think it would have been better to focus on her flaws, insecurities, inner turmoil, etc rather than on all the other characters. As a reader and a woman, I could have related to that more.
I really enjoyed the narration, she did a wonderful job. I didn't enjoy this book as much as her other book The Winter Palace. This book was good, I just didn't sympathize with the main character as much as I did for the main character of Winter Palace.
