An incredible book for anyone who wishes to know the influence Christianity has had, not just on Western culture, but on the world itself.
This was a great book. I am personally deeply interested in the history of the Christian Church but I think the appeal of Holland's momentous work is broader than church history. Holland ties the grand sweep of the Christian epoch, both East and West, into the development of the modern era- hence the title. The influence of Christendom on the whole world and especially the modern world is surprising even to someone used to thinking about its influence and reach.
Fantastic read. A history lesson that spans from the first century to present day. From Ignatious to Wokeism and all points in between. Homosexuality, heterosexuality and women’s rights, Tom Holland has done a great job of covering a wide array of information. I loved the book and will be listening to it at least one more time. Narration is in the Queens English and is well done but as an American listener, can seem slightly cumbersome at times. There are a few spots of foul language but not so much that it is untenable.
If your interested in history and Christianity, I highly recommend this book. Well done.
