Unabridged Audiobook
An absolutely amazing book with some of the best narration out there. It's so under rated. If you like Slavic mythology and serial killers, buy this book. In short, it's about a psychiatrist that takes a job at a mental asylum, (sometime around the late 1920s to early 1930s) that houses Czechoslovakia's most notorious serial killers, in order to test his "Devil Aspect" theory, and help those suffering from mental illness. Something that was unheard of treating with humane methods in the early 1900s. The book is told from two PoV's. The psychiatrist, and a detective that's investigating a string of violent murders from a serial killer named Leather Apron. This is all set in the mountains of a ancient castle (now transformed into a psychiatric ward) with a dark past, amidst the looming reign of Adolf Hitler and the coming war. This is a dark book in it's themes, and can be very violent and disturbing. The narrator does a phenomenal job differentiating his voices between characters. He doesn't just read, he performs. He brings a sense of dread and emotion to his narration. Overall, this is a top notch book for those looking for believable horror with fantastic atmosphere and narration. The author has an penchant for writing historical horror fiction, and he weaves real life historical horror and dark Slavic mythology into this tale masterfully.
