Unabridged Audiobook
While the overall premise of this book is excellent and I generally liked the characters, I found the long diatribes about martial arts wearing. As we were listening to it driving across Nebraska, my husband remarked how tedious the whole thing was. Not one of his favorite reads in a long time.
A murder mystery, suspense story, plus lots of comments on the interplay between teacher and student as the student transitions into a teacher in his own right (kind of like what would have happened to the karate kid if he had become middle aged and become a senior student of his technique). The mystery is interesting at first but conclusion becomes predictable as the story progresses....however what I found interesting was the way the storyteller gains insight of his actions and the ability to see actions in others even before they happen. You do not have to be a martial arts loyalist to like this novel. As an audiobook the narration was top notch. Even though the book is a part of a series you are not left in the dark.
