Summary
By #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, the first book in a stunning new series about a mortal girl who finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue.

Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Although I'm not young adult I enjoyed reading this book because it's the first one in this series I gave it a four getting ready to read the second one. Narrator was awesome!

Writing was a bit dull so it was difficult for me to be engrossed in the world building. The relationships sister between sisters, and sister between brother and others in the family don’t feel genuine. I’m assuming there’s a slow burn romance with Cardan but nothing much happens right now. The plot thickens at the end towards the end and made me intrigued enough to use a credit for the next book.

Loving this book but the narrator has a fake dramatic tone reading during the whole book. It really impacted negatively the story for me

I listened to this first from my local library’s ebooks. I needed to own it for myself because it’s that good. The first book is slower but it gets better the next 2 books. Just needs time to pick up.

I loved loved the story but the writing felt a bit flat to me. I’m not sure if it was the relationships, character development, or world building.

Amazing book, you need to be patient to see some cardan and jude action, though there is very little romance in this book, you need to read this then the next and lastly the last, you cannot read any of these as a stand-alone and you wouldn’t need to due to how exciting it is listening
